You are correct, tons of these were ordered. If people have to wait, they have nothing to really complain about. When Onvia cancels these orders, however, then they DO have something to complain about. An order is a contract. If all sellers were allowed to "cancel" (read breach) their contracts whenever they felt like it, our entire commerce system would be screwed up. If a company cannot do realtime inventory, then those companies should CONSPICUOUSLY state on a Page that YOU MUSt READ before completing an ORDER (and have it on your confirmation page/receipt as well) that:
ALL ORDERS ARE CONSIDERED OFFERS AND COMPANY'S ACCEPTANCE IS EXPRESSLY CONDITIONED ON THE ITEM'S BEING IN STOCK.
Without doing so or something similar, these companies have created a binding contract and continue to routinely breach whenever it is convenient. Before you harp about people to "stop crying", it's suckers like you that breed companies like them. (Note: if you were talking only about the people who will have to wait, then disregard last comment).
