For one thing, you get into an accident either day or night, one of the things the insurance company asks is if you had your lights on or off.

Also, some people may of done a bad wiring job on their new head units :/ .

it actually helps see oncoming traffic when the sun is in ur eye. also helps retards know my car is there and therefore not run into me

I'm against DRLs, airbags, etc...

If a driver can't remember to turn his headlights on, get him off the road.

Too many lights on a street can be distracting.

I *hate* DRLs.

Esp. on the Saturns.

They are always brighter than normal lights and they are blinding.

Why can't they just have the regular low beam lights on?!?!?

I like having daytime running lights. I don't usually forget to turn my lights on though so they don't really come in handy for me. I guess I'm not a stupid female!

: ) Amanda

I seem to never have a problem turning my lights on, myself.

All it takes is a brain to think, hmm...it's really cloudy I better turn on my lights. Or, it's starting to rain I better turn on my lights. Or, I'm driving down a road covered by large trees I better turn on my lights.

I wouldn't mind them if the mfrs just used the regular low beam lights. They use those add'l lights that are set closer and appear to have been aimed at the factory to point directly into oncoming drivers' line of sight! :|

Brighter than normal lights? They don't even light up the pavement, yet alone brighter than headlights.

They aren't that bright....

EVERY Saturn that pulls up behind me I *have* to flip the nighttime lever on my rearview mirror. They are HORRIBLY aimed and set TOO close together and they appear VERY bright to anyone in front of them.

I have a car that wasn't made in the US so it is smart enought to turn the light off when you turn the key off so there is no need for the "special" day time running lights and don't need to worry about forgetting to turn the lights on and off.

Yeh, with my camry I just keep the lights switched on at all times. When I open the drivers side door it automatically turns them off.

In GM's defense though, I think the headlights will automatically turn themselves off on many of the late model cars if the car is left turned off for a short duration of time.

I've never had that problem driving. I'll look out for it to see what you're talking about.

What bugs me the most is SUVs.... there headlights are level right where my head is at, so I get blinded no matter where they are at.

Auto dimming mirrors is your solution 😉

Our van has automatic lights all around. Automatically runs with DRL and then as it gets darker out the headlights automatically come on.

That was a very ignorant and downright stupid comment. And that car sounds exceedingly American - it's built with features that allow people to be lazy!

Oh, and stay out of my way, that is, assuming you have enough braincells to detect the 4 headlights, 6 roof running lights, drain cap running lights, floorboard running lights and grille lights on my van. If not - well, I suppose you deserve my psuedo-chrome bumper in your face.

Those problems are highly exaggerated IMO. DRL's are not that bright.

What?s bad about DRLs?
1. You lose critical traffic signaling methods. Flashing your headlights is
a) the accepted signal to a trucker that it is safe to change lanes
b) a signal to alert drivers that have forgotten to turn on their headlights
c) a signal at a 4-way stop or in a parking lot to let the other driver go first
d) a signal to other vehicles that you are traveling with that you need to stop.

A Signal to alert drives they have forgotten to turn on there headlights? Headlights are for when its dark. Why would my DRL be on when its dark? My headlights would be on.

And my flashing still works, It turns off the DRL when it flashes.

Makes no difference in the daytime, and at nighttime, all the senile, unexperienced, stupid and female (<~ good thing atot doesnt have alot of chicks) drivers forget that their tail lights are off

umm wtf are you talking about ?
The tail lights don't come on when the day time running lights are on.
And the Daytime running lights are on automatically, it's not something you turn on or off with a switch unless you can mod it.

Yeah, that's exactly what he's saying - if you have DRL, you might not remember to turn your lights on at night, therefore leaving your tail lights off.

Well, i have DRL, and i always turn my lights on at night, because when they're off, the entire interior of my car is dark.

I can see where you would realize the the headlights are not on because the interior or dash lights are not operating. However, people do live in highly lit cities or suburbs and with all of the street lights, it's quite easy to not see whether your dash lights are on or off.

maybe he should turn the dimmer up 😉

The DRLs operate at about 70% of the high beam output.

Exactly...and the fact that on many cars (Saturns, Toyotas, Pontiacs, etc.) the high beams are set closer together makes them appear even more distracting to other drivers.

Why not just use the low beam? 😕

Problem solved!

GM wants vehicles to light up during day

I know there was a huge study in Sweden that started this trend. And there was one in Canada as well.

I don't know what the big deal is.

The problem is, all these studies have been done in far northern countries/regions with very short, dark winter days. I'm waiting for a study in more southern region.

Daytime running lights = annoying and stupid. Just another pair of bulbs to be misaligned, blinding oncoming traffic on occasion (although not really because thankfully at least the DRL are not that bright).

Furthermore, halogen headlights & foglights, the other modern vehicle lighting fad = extremely dangerous, should be illegal.
