Another XM convert

I'm so sick of local radio playing the same crap with same annoying ads everyday.
I just installed XM Roady on my car yesterday and I regret that I did not do it sooner.

The comedy channel is so worth it. Yesterday there is this skit about a guy (the comedian) teasing a telemarketer who try to sell him something. It's so funny, I have to stop driving 🙂

For those of you who drive a lot, give XM a try.
Yes, I'm plugging for XM now.

I got my Roady from Target, get free XM modulator (blech, I use AUX on my Alpine) instantly and get Home kit with MIR. Pretty good deal to me.

Even if you don't drive alot, they have those adadpters so you can take the player into your house. I yearn for the day that portable mp3 players have satellite radio build-in instead of fm. How cool would that be!

yeah, that's a good deal on the Roady

I got the Skyfi unit as soon as it came out, and have loved every minute of listening to it. I drive between 3 and 4 thousand miles a month, and it's great.

I can't tell you how many people I know who have XM who say the exact same thing. I've got to believe them at some point and break down and do it. I haven't yet though, I think I'll wait until I replace the POS I'm driving now.

I resisted TIVO for quite a while too, for no apparent reason...

I they had XM in my work truck that I drive around for at least t 5 hours a day, I can't tell you
how happy I'd be.

You don't know how sick I am of being limited to infinite repeats of
Billy Joel, Linkin Park, or Cash Money Millionaires songs

deftron; pay the $130 and get it 🙂 i put an xm commander in my car, good investment, dont even feel like wiring up my ipod to my car anymore.

They have a fleet of a couple dozen trucks... I drive a diferent one all the time... don't think I can afford to put a XM receiver in each one.

The best part of XM, to me at least, is the variety. For the past few months I've been addicted to sports radio, and there are 4 sports stations (ESPN, ESPNEWS, Fox Sports, and the Sporting News). Before that, I was addicted to jazz, before that rock. It's great. When the Iraq war really kicked off, I was listening to the news stations. On long road trips, we'll listen to comedy.

It gives you the options to listen to what you want to listen to. People who say "I'll never pay for radio" don't get it until they listen to it, and don't REALLY get it until they buy it.

I can't wait for them to send me the Home Kit.
For once I miss listening to radio and I feel like driving just for the sake of listening to XM.
I also got the Roady Remote from Circuit City for $14.99 shipped (+tax). Pretty cheap since Delphi have it for $19.99 + shipping.

deftron,
I know what you mean. Here in phx, all radio have the habit of playing Phil Collins.
Each one of them would play p.c at least 2 times per hour. It'll drive you nuts.
If one play p.c, the other will be playing ads.

um, yeah.

After listening to XM I don't think I've turned on FM in quite some time. I don't even remember what my programs are.

If you like music, you will get satellite.

Wow, good to hear so many positive responses...

I have been sitting on the fence regarding XM radio....I want to try it but the initial investment seems kinda steep for radio.

Where can I get the best deal on a car/home system?

I've had XM since 12/02. well worth the monthly fee. We have 3 subscriptions on our account now. I have the SKYFi with the various adapter kits. I'm interested in the SKYFi 2 coming out later this year. Same form factor so it works with the existing adapter kits/boomboxes, increased audio output, USB port for PC functionality like the XMPCR. Should be nice. I hope they fix the display so it reads better in bright lights.

Delphi SKYFI with Car Kit is $169.98 - 10% off at target.com, not so hot.
I got my Delphi Roady (comes with cassette adapter) at Target B&M, $119.99 with $29.99 coupon for free FM Adapter then free MIR for Home Kit ($19.99). So I guess Roady is the best deal now.

Not too familiar with Sirius but XM have 1.68 million subscriber as of April 2004.

I got my Roady installed in less than an hour. Got signal instantly, after activation I only need around 20 minutes for the unit to be fully activated.

Cassette adapter? You use this to connect the XM radio to your car stereo?

If so it wouldn't work for me I don't have a cassette player in my truck. Guess I would have to get the other one?

I doubt either will go bankrupt anytime soon. I'd go with Sirius since they have many more commercial free stations.

Seems that XM is a great product. Though I'm not willing at this point to pay for radio.
Mabey when it becomes more of a widespread commodity I will look at it.

I never really listened to much but college radio anyway. Radio is so monopolized it sucks.

Sirius is also good, my bro has it and I literally went out to his car and almost drained his battery. hadda spend a good 20 minutes burnin that buck 80 of fuel to recharge the battery.

Music chan's are great and Comedy chans are unbelievable.

I've had Sirius for a while now and it's awesome. Those of you who want sports radio, should definitely give sirius a look, they are kickass for sports, having exclusive coverage of the NFL and much more.

I got Sirius this past weekend.

It really is fantastic. For anyone living in a rural area, especially, you will never regret getting a sat radio.
