speed limit was 35. the cop was being a dick.

He was a being a dick? You didn't have tags and were going over the speed limit. I'd have pulled you over, planted dope and a gun on you, and then raped your family once I got your address. Now THAT would have been a dick move on his part.

here is my conspiracy theory, please read and still continue to call me a dick.

First, i was making a right turn and he was going straight. He sees my car with no tags and then decides to follow me. He needs a stupid excuse to pull me over for my no tags and says I was speeding, which I must stress that I wasn't. He tells me I was speeding and I give him a little attitude (which is a mistake). He takes my license and runs it, his eyes start flashing. He sees my record and has hit jackpot. His shot in the dark has worked.

End of story.

And to top it all off I stopped smoking again on Sunday. Talk about a reason to start again but didn't.

Why were you going 40 in a 35 zone? Especially after you saw the cop turn and follow you? Are you stupid? Do you like getting pulled over?

BTW-What kind of car do you drive? I'm guessing it is something that a cop might take notice of.

Umm...if you don't have any tags WHY would he need an excuse to pull you over? Hell in NY if you have only 1 tag showing and the other in view (but not where it should be) the cop can still pull you over.

you're a moron.

No tags=legitimate excuse to pull you over. Speeding is just icing on the cake. Mouthing off to him is a guaranteed ticket, and your previous record means you get laughed out of court if you contest it.

You say you're not speeding, yet earlier in the thread you say you were going "maybe 40" and admit the limit was 35? Hello, that's called SPEEDING.

Face it, with your driving ability, the police department can probably balance their budget giving you tickets.

So, if you were "maybe" going 40, how do you know that "maybe" you weren't going 50? To me, maybe means you aren't exactly sure how fast you were going. Just be sure if you go to court to avoid that word before you start arguing with the judge. Who knows, maybe he'll just say "OK, 'maybe' 35 mph was just a suggested speed. Dismissed." ;)

You need to be a man and meow like a cat because real men "meow" like cats.

I guess I'm not understanding this.... How can you say you take responsibility for your actions, admit to doing "maybe" 40 in a 35, and then say you don't deserve this ticket? If you take responsibility for your actions, suck it up and pay the ticket.

Don't misunderstand me...I think speeding tickets are ridiculous. I'd rather the police departments determine how much revenue they need to make each year from moving violations, divide that by x number of drivers in their jurisidiction, and mail each driver a bill accordingly. I admit to breaking the speed limit every day, and have gotten a few tickets in my many years of driving for doing just that. If you can't live with the consequences when you get busted (and in your case, ADMIT to breaking the law), then take your foot off the gas.

You are a dick. He didn't need an excuse to pull you over for no tags. Your attitude is what got the ticket, if you weren't a dick to him he MIGHT have left it at a warning. I got pulled over Sunday night (39 in a 30) and was very polite, provided everything he asked for, and I called him "sir" or "officer" at all times. He let me go with a written warning.

You told him you might have been doing 40. Admission of guilt = guilt.

First it's "maybe 40 not 50," now it's "I know I didn't speed." Which is it?

I'm just curious, but do you even read your posts??? You said "i wasn't doing 50, maybe 40 not 50." Then you said "speed limit was 35." Now I'm going to ignore the obvious, which is that you don't know how fast you truly were going. Look at what you admitted -- Maybe doing 40. Speed limit 35. If 40 isn't more than 35 (equals SPEEDING) then perhaps I need to quit helping my son with his 4th grade math. :D

So, here's your problem - you admitted, flat out, to the ticketing officer, that YOU WERE SPEEDING. If you read your citation I'd be willing to bet that somewhere on there it says something along the lines of "signature does not equal admission of guilt." Not like it matters...you told the officer you were guilty. Who do you think the judge is going to believe? Someone that posted they already have 2 prior tickets for speeding, or an officer that helps him keep a job by making sure that docket stays full?

Regardless, I already mentioned I think speeding tickets are BS. So, if you decide to fight it in court over it, I'd suggest a few things:

1) Get your story straight. Start by removing "maybe" from your vocabulary.
2) You at least recognize giving the officer attitude was the wrong thing to do. Remember that in front of the judge as they tend to be less tolerant and forgiving than officers, and can quickly turn your speeding ticket into something very costly, both in time and money.
3) Read this write up which deals specifically with trying to beat a ticket based on pacing.

How long ago was your last ticket? The last time I had to go for a speeding ticket (a couple of years back) I was able to take a class and did not have to notify my insurance company nor receive any points on my license. The lady teaching the class felt generous and told us to always try and take the class. Even though our state says you can only do the class if your previous ticket was more than a year ago, she said that it's at the discretion of each judge. If they feel you aren't a repeat offender then more often than not they'll offer you the class. They'd rather make the money for charging you for the class than having you send your money to your insurance company. Would that maybe be an option available where you're at?

Anyways, best of luck with whatever you choose to do!

??! wtf? 1/4 of a mile is how many city blocks?
I'll agree that it would be VERY difficult to pace someone at highway speeds and get an accurate speed over 1/4 of a mile..

But in a city... c'mon. That's half a minute of driving..
Well, I take that back.... since you admitted already to going over the speed limit, it *would* be less than half a minute. I don't feel like giving you a math lesson, but it's related to hyperbolic functions... The faster you go, the less the difference in time for a certain distance, thus the longer you would need to be paced. You can probably use that to your advantage: "your honor, *if* I was going 35, he could have easily paced me to verify my speed. However, according to the officer, I was going 50 - he couldn't have accurately gotten this speed in only a 1/4 mile. " Judge: "so, since the officer wasn't able to easily verify a speed of 35, you must have been speeding?" "well, uhhh, yeah, I already told him I was speeding. But I wasn't going 50." "Guilty. Next."

That's when he decided to give you a ticket. And get your tags, you're a burden on society as long as you don't pay your registration fees.
