Are you suggesting that we begin substituting guns for midol/pamprin and then shunt them into a local school for pms related activities?
Midol and Pamprin are only half measures and pms isn't a necessary requirement. Parents are stressed these days.

So he is over 21, and it was a handgun.

Also arguably the most infamous school shooter, Virginia tech, was over 21, and also armed with a handgun.

Why the laser focus on AR-15 and the age of 21 then?

Is the only real solution here just no more guns?

Well what happens when a police officer discharges his weapon in a school? ABSOLUTELY no more guns?

What happens when there is a military base shooting - no we really mean it, no more guns.
Not just no more guns, less guns! Yes, take them away. Make it illegal to "own" a gun. Take them out of the hands of the police except in special situations ultimately. Look at England. Do not have an armed segment of the population, period. The military should be tightly regulated in terms of their access to weapons.

Responsible gun owners*.

*Right up until they are not anymore.

Like people are.

So what is something that should be banned in society like how you want with guns? I can think of many things that people use/do that are fine when responsible people do it, but sometimes they do bad things.

Cars. Sex. Drugs. ect.

A rising tide of people are beginning to feel that way. Maybe the 2nd amendment was romanticizing the notion of revolution and uprising, and a government in fear of its people but ultimately it was a mistake. All we need is a wave of Justices to decide that it was a symbolic amendment not meant to be taken seriously, that removes the "prefatory clause" claim, the "militia" counterargument, and just say it is a historical nod to the American Revolution and that is that, it was never meant to be law.

None of those other things exist for the singular purpose of killing people (I think a logical exception could exist for sporting guns)

I have to disagree. It's fewer guns.

Well, certainly the combination of the three should be frowned upon.

And personally I want to see a lot more restrictions on cars than we currently have. Unlike guns and cars, drugs mostly harm the user, so its a very different issue. I think we are stuck with sex. It seems to be highly addictive (well, it's very moreish, anyway)

What is the reason for that then?
As I've stated at various points, I think they are a societal net negative. The other things you mentioned are not in my estimation.

I don't want guns in the hands of average people or even average police.

Technically alcohol has some benefits, it makes socializing easier, but I think it is a net negative as well for the role it plays in sexual assault, drunk driving, personal injury, fetal alcohol syndrome, domestic violence, long term health impacts, etc.

Guns for the vast majority of people do not exist to kill people. They are for fun, or for defending. Even in terms of defense, they are not bought to kill, but to defend and if needed kill.

I don't personally partake in it, but it seems like in moderation it can even have health benefits (red wine). Also, I lump it in with drugs because when it is for recreational purposes, it's primary role is an anesthetic and while I wish people would explore alternatives, it seems like that can't be forced. I do hope that humanity can outgrow it at some point... but I expect we'll outgrow guns before we outgrow chemical ingestion for altered states.

Well, we live in a complex world, and all of those things can show a clear link to harm to others.

As for combining them, well, I don't do drugs.

There are many other guns to achieve their entertainment with.

They are designed to kill even if that is in defense of oneself.

Yep, you have said that.

Yes I know, but I want to know why they are not.

Not relevant to my question.

Cars are approaching being both clean and self-driving, so I'm not sure why you would argue they need to be banned.

Sex? I'm not even sure what you're talking about there. As long as everyone consents to whatever happens, then what's the problem?

Drugs: Already elaborated.

Guns offer none of the societal value that these other things can. The motivations are entertainment/sport, which can be explored in countless other ways; or defense/fear and nothing is going to help someone who has that particular insecurity, including a gun.
