If you put a uniform bumper height then you have just cancelled out ANY advantage of the ground clearance that an SUV/Pickup truck provides. That ground clearance is crucial to off road handling, high incline manuevering, and various other environmental factors that demand a minimum of 8" of clearance.

and what about what about taking a corner of on / offramp on the highway to fast.... when was the last time you saw a car roll over doing that? Its a legitimate problem with suv's.

Like I said, if you're driving a larger truck/SUV fast enough to roll it when going around a corner or an offramp, YOU ARE A FUCING MORON. And I hope you die in the most horrible roll over crash imaginable, the human race is better off without your offspring contaminating the gene pool.

ROFL, thats retarded! When was the last time you saw ANY vehicle roll on a turn or on an exit ramp?!

Every vehicle has its stanards. EVERY vehicle on the road will turn a 90 degree right turn at 30mph. Ive done it many a time in my BRONCO.

Btw, BRONCOs are #1 for rollovers....so uhhh...check ur facts bro ;)

All I have to say is (in your best Elmer Fudd voice) "waaaaaahhhhhh, those big scawy SUV's are dangewous". To those who hate SUV's, tough sh!t, I hate you for having a narrow minded opinion. If you think that SUV drivers are the only people who distract themselves while driving, you need to open your eyes, the COPS in my town drive around with cell phones glued to their ears, the little punks from the projects drive their rust bucket CRX's around with the stereo so loud you can't hear your own music with the windows rolled up. And for those who think that a larger vehicle is not as safe in a crash, go check out the NHTSA web site or some of the insurance insitute web sites and see what the results are; here's just one of many. Oh yeah, waaaahhhh, I don't use my SUV to it's full capacity 100% of the time, how many times do you drive around with all of your seats and trunk filled? If your car has traction control and ABS then shame on you for not flooring the throttle at every start and putting the brake pedal to the floor on every stop because you are not using your vehicle's full capabilities. And how about the "sports car" drivers, how many of these cars which are capable of 0 - 60 in 0.3 seconds and top speeds of 187 mph ever make it to the track which is what they were designed for? Yep, SUV hater's, the biggest bunch of hypocrites known to man. Find something real to worry about, as for me, I would drive a HumVee if I could afford one, just for the fact that it will protect my family from all of the other morons on the road. And that's MY CHOICE, and if it pisses you off, then all the better.

No, damnit you ALL are MISSING the POINT! We NEED Safer passenger CARS - cars that will withstand a whack in the side from a SUV or pickup. Reread the first thread in this topic . . .

Now that you know that . . . flame on! :D

I agree, we need safer passenger cars, more specifically, should and head protection. I don't believe side-airbags are enough though, I think a combination of lowering the seat height position and raising the side door panels, a few inches, to cover more of the shoulder, neck area would be better. Might also improve the dash for better visibility too.

And before anybody chimes in with "well, you would feel different if you drove something else", here's a list of what I currently drive: 1997 Explorer XLT V8, 1992 Audi 100S, and 1988 Suzuki Katana 1100. So don't cry that I don't care about how other people feel in cars and on bikes because as the saying goes, "been there, done that, doin' it tomorrow".:D

We also need safer drivers. You can have the safest car/truck in the world but put a bad driver behind the wheel and it can still kill someone. We have a phrase where I work, "If you design something that is idiot proof, someone else will just design a better idiot". I can't believe how I have to pay attention for the other brain dead box jockeys because they are too busy on their cell phone, or arguing with their passengers, or changing radio stations/CD's, or READING A BOOK for Christ's sake. This is the primary reason why my two and a half year old daughter rides in the SUV: PROTECTION FROM OTHERS.

I was rolling the other day. I saw a woman in her late 30s/early 40s climb down from a Ford Exhibition and what was the bumper sticker on the back? WWF (World Wildlife Fund). Gee...let's suck up gobs of fossil fuels that are shipped through environmentally fragile areas but donate money to those trying to fight the same.

Uh...

Why do people buy Corvettes and never take them to 179 MPH? Why do people by Porsche 911 Turbos and not do 189 MPH?? Why do people by F-350's and not fill the bed up with a whole bunch of junk on a daily basis?

Why do people buy insurance? B/C while it may not benefit you right now, it may come in handy down the road.

if i spent 50k on an SUV i wouldnt want to go offroad and risk scratching it either. Who knows how much repairs on it would cost. real offroaders get real off road vehicles.

i'll take my freinds 87 CJ over any SUV on the market today when it comes to offroading.

Note the key word, NEVER.

Besides, SUVs cause more potentially fatal accidents because of size and weight. Isn't that the point of this thread??? :-\

When all is said and done. It doesn't matter what the hell you like or what I like. It's what the American public wants. It's their/our money and they/we can do whatever the hell we want with it.

3 cheers for capitalism

Bottom line is, it's downright stupid to sit here and chasitize people for vehicles that they purchased. It's their fuggin' money. Get over it. If you don't like, don't think it's feasible, or just think it's hideous, suck it up and move on.

Life is too short to pine over something stupid like this.

And people wonder why America is so dependent on Mideast oil...

Ford sells 900,000+ F-Series pickup trucks a year
GM sells 900,000+ Silverados/Sierra pickup trucks a year

I don't see you people bashing these large vehicles. They get just about the same gas mileage as the Expedition/Navigator/Excursion and Tahoe/Yukon/Escalade SUV's that are based on them.

You wanna know WHY you don't bash pickup trucks? It's b/c SUV's are popular now and you have to have something to gang up on.

You are right about that. I think the difference to many people is perception.
Around here, anyway, most Pickups have a guy in dungarees and work boots driving and a sign like "B&D Contractors" on the doors. People see these as being necessary for a particular job.
Then they see soccer mom/yuppie/whatever in a Ford Extravaganza and figure they have no business driving it 'just because'.

Well see that's the thing. They DO have a right to drive it "just because", just because they want it, just because they can afford it, just because they like a bigger vehicle. IT'S THEIR CHOICE. Not anyone elses, and it never should be.

not bashing the SUV's so much as the SUV owner/driver. Most truck drivers actually use thier trucks for truck type things occasionally. I have many freinds with SUV's who have never used the "utility vehicle" part beyond using it to haul the cooler down to the baseball feild for tailgating. I have no problem with people who use thier SUV's for the purpose they were intended for. However 90% of people who drive them are just posers.

I still vote for another drivers license class is all, Full size truck and Large SUV.... I'd have to take it now wouldn't I?? and I'm all for it. But I also know what I drive on the road, where the people giving SUV's a bad rap don't have a clue (soccer mom #1 example), to them it's another 2400lb car on stilts, they don't have any idea about the physics of what they are handling. I'm not saying make it as hard as a CDL, but make it harder then the free hand-outs the DMV is giving.
