I like this clip, it's Sean Strickland after winning the belt and on Theo Von's podcast, he is talking about being a white supremacist and through training realizing he was not a racist just really fucking angry.. I am pretty sure he is still a Trumphard though. I saw another clip of him reacting to the Andrew Tate culture and he was ripping into these dudes as pathetic men.

To me Sean stands as an example of a guy with a good heart, has endured a shit ton of trauma, and is working through it, growing day by day.

Probably largely because thieving isn't necessarily a question of "fucking up". Some people have to do it to survive.

Her racism *could* be a necessary part of her existence (e.g. she might be domestically abused and forced to talk this way), and if that was the case then there ought to be some more signs of it, the relevant agencies would hopefully help get her out of the situation and into one that allows her to heal and get on with her life.

You talk as if society consists of one person who will never forgive a racist transgression, which is neither logical or true. The fact that she's transmitted her racist opinions to the world is a bigger problem than if she had just said something on the local level; some people will never forgive her (if she genuinely wanted forgiveness), most will though and many people will forget about this nobody's idiotic statement (I will probably have forgotten her name three weeks after this thread has died). She could transmit a sincere apology. She could apply to another university, either one that doesn't give much of a shit about her opinions, or one that does and include an apology-type statement in her application. There are so many ways forward out of the hole she's dug for herself, and even if she doesn't want to get out of the hole then I'm certain that there are plenty of like-minded locals to keep her company and some basic job to go with it.

I'm not trying to be nasty when I say this, but I think you're starting to sound like an old person who fears things, fears change, and I think you need to challenge that. With the digital age, information stands a greater chance of permanence but its permanence is highly dependent on how humanity uses it, that's aside from how easy it is to add more information to the pile in total and thus compounding the problem. Take my wife's phone for example: She's probably got 10k photos and videos on it by now. Is the information organised to be easily accessible and therefore allowing her to quickly find something amongst that lot? No. If it's not filed in a usable manner then it's often as good as lost.

I bet that while maybe one person here (without looking up anything) can remember the name of some racist Karen from a year or two ago, there wouldn't be any consensus about which one it was. I certainly can't remember any! Being a moron is part of the human condition, there's just so many of them; maybe if there was one Internet-famous racist Karen per year then *maybe* people would stand a chance of remembering. But the goldfish-bowl nature of modern life is definitely a new and troubling thing. When I went over the handlebars of my bike, a few years back (messed up fitting my brake cable) my first thought wasn't "that tarmac looks hard" or "I hope that bus behind me stops in time", but "I hope none of those kids at the bus-stop there have their phone camera out, because I bet I look pretty stupid".

I had the same thought. It's a different world with social media and cameras available to everyone. That's good in the case of catching cop bullshit and other similar things that would remain hidden, but for the average joe being public with every thought and whim is basically just asking for it. Once out there, it's out there for good. I know for a fact that workplaces will scour social media for info on job candidates, something to keep in mind. And for celebrities I guess "growing your brand" is worth the inevitable foot-in-mouth disease that most of them come down with at some point unless they just stay completely bland.

There are scenarios in which what you're saying is valid:

1 - a person pretending to be something they're not (e.g. this woman continuing to be a racist moron and trying to act like she's not in order to successfully apply for something).

2 - a person applying for something where the people making the decision are utterly intolerant of any blemish on their record.

2a - lazy HR-type staff screening applications (which has been immensely problematic even without looking for dirt under peoples' nails)

In the rest of cases though, I think because of the 'wealth of information' (and I'm using this term very loosely), people making the decisions are going to be disregarding a lot more 'information' than they ever did (or at least not making giant assumptions about say a person in their thirties based on something they said in their late teens / early twenties).

In your point about a position of power though, if a candidate is trying to pass for something other than GQP/conservative/far-right, that dumb thing they said decades ago actually makes for a good talking point to bring across their sincerity to would-be voters.
