Is there a good affordable console system coming out? In the $300 range? I am really behind the curve on these things.

You can get a 360 core for $300 (no HDD though). Rumored to be a price drop this coming fall/winter.

Someone from M$ has said that there will be no drop this fall, and it will be at least spring before they consider it.

I'm glad. People expect price drops, and that annoys me. I haven't gotten a 360, yet. I, like I'm sure many others, am waiting for Halo 3. I'm sure MS knows this is true for many people and won't drop the price until well after its release.

I consider the MS response to be mandatory from a PR/business perspective. You don't confirm a price drop 8 months from the day you do a price drop. Nobody would buy your console then. If there is a price drop, I'm betting it will be announced late October after the Wii comes out and before the PS3 is launched.

Good point. However, it would also help to leak that information early to discourage people from pre-ordering a PS3. I mean, if it's going to be as rare as all the other recent consoles, then the ONLY way people are going to get one this year is to pre-order, wait in a hell of a long line or get REALLY lucky. It's not like people are going to have a choice of a PS3 or an XBox360 on the shelf in front of them until spring of next year.

At this point, there is also no reason to lower the price because it still has a much lower price than the PS3 and sales are still strong.
