If the GOP is concerned about how they might be distasteful to potential future voters they always have the option to put forward policies that aren't as distasteful to those groups.

Yup. Ironically the administration is considering how to break the law in order to prevent those people from legally presenting themselves.

One thing I hadn’t considered enough before this administration is just how much our law depends on the executive branch making at least a token effort to enforce the law in good faith.

Or how much our laws against the president's businesses profiting from his position depend on the congress caring.
 
After WH says 5K troops going the the border DOD says they'll start arriving next week with 150 miles of concertina wire to "harden" the border.

This is for a caravan that is, at least, 800 miles away and 1/3rd the size it was. A deployment that will cost multiple 10s of millions minimum just to be a set piece for Trump's midterm pitch.

And let’s not leave out that by all reports most, if not all, of these people intend to try and enter legally through the asylum process. This is all for show.

What are the odds we get a Trump visit to the border with the troops (cum campaign rally) complete with a photo op of him theatrically glaring across the border at empty land via binoculars and follow on ass kissing Fox interview in front of expensive gov hardware?

If the Dems take back the House the Armed Services Committee should investigate this enormous, explicitly political, waste of funds.
 
I suspect this caravan was organized by republican operatives. I don't believe the timing is coincidental. It's a lot cheaper to hire some agitators in Honduras than buying TV ads in the US.

Or they could toss some cans in the river, let Trump work out on them with an M-16, just to send a message.
