If a plain brown-bagged burger is equivalent to heroin, just imagine what a visit to Red Robin will do to you. It's like hookers and blow on one plate - with a milkshake to wash it all down!

Freedom of choice cannot come with freedom from consequence.

Liberals are wrong to tell us, through force of government, what we cannot eat, what we shouldn't drive, and what we shouldn't wear.

Conservatives are wrong to tell us, through force of government, what we cannot say, hear, or see (FCC "decency rules) and what we shouldn't do with our sexual organs.

Agreed, except I can support FCC "decency rules" as long as they do not infringe on our right to choose racier fare if we wish. I should be free to choose Spongebob Nopants over Spongebob Squarepants. Society has a perfect right to establish decency standards for broadcast or public attire/behavior just as long as individuals are not forced to abide by them in private and the rules are equally applied - if gays can't kiss in public, we should all have to abide by the same rules. Have to say though, it's a bizarre standard that makes a breast or a kiss more offensive than a beheading or a killing. Also, we're probably at the point where these standards can be enforced through positive action rather than passive inaction. Assuming stations are willing to specify standards for themselves, I have no problem with forcing those who wish not to be exposed to things they find offensive or harmful to purchase a broadcast decoder box that blocks those channels and/or shows. Cable and satellite are already there, and if one is qualified to raise kids one should certainly be qualified to select an appropriate decoder box.

Government should have a damn good reason to infringe on individual freedom, a compelling need that cannot be otherwise met. We need a party not enamored of using the armed might of government to enforce its preferences on everyone.

I disagree. No one is forced to watch or listen to anything. If they find it offensive they should watch or listen to something else.

There is no reason to feed your kids burgers. None what so ever.

Should parents also NEVER give their kids ice cream, or never let them listen to music or never let them go outside?

Parenting includes teaching the kids about moderation. It's perfectly reasonable to eat a delicious bacon cheeseburger every once in a while, thus, there's absolutely nothing wrong with feeding your kid a burger now and then.

Also, kids should play outside a lot, so they should be able to eat high fat foods and burn the calories away.

Mmmm... That sounds good. I think I'll get my fix tonight to avoid going through cholesterol withdrawal.

I am all for healthy eating and do not eat much meat myself as I don't care for it unless it is well seasoned and prepared well. i also think that parents should feed their kids good foods, and it is somewhat annoying when all parents give their children is garbage. However, to compare heroin to hamburgers is really ridiculous. Like others have already said, it is a very poor analogy.

Don't worry about it. Media outlets are surprisingly good at self-regulation. If someone shows some titties, there's always some moral crusader on the news saying how the show is evil and how the station should be mail bombed and what not. Angry women who haven't had sex in 5 years seem good at shutting things down.

I don't think we are in danger of parents NEVER feeding their kids burgers due to this ad. It won't even begin to offset fast food industry advertising. The reality is that we have a childhood obesity and metabolic disease epidemic, so kids aren't burning the calories away.

shut up you idiots with your stupid crap are ruining the fast food industry. they've gone to such complete shit i don't even eat at them any more. the only "fast food" i get is a taco place that's open 24/7 by my house or a drive through diner. when stupid shits like you got mcdonalds to remove the super size option i died a little inside. No I'm not some 400+ lb wheelchair bound fatass. I just happen to like food, all types of food(except pickled cucumbers).

Yea, and instead of putting the blame on the parents where it belongs, you big government nanny staters blame everything except the real problem.

It doesn't matter. In their minds, there is no option but for government to pay for your healthcare. Therefore, the state has an interest in everything you put in your body. I'm not sure why we haven't changed our national anthem yet, because this approach is hardly leaving us as the "land of the free," though maybe congress has inserted an asterisk on "free" in the official version now to add a disclaimer.

When I was a kid, I had my fair share of McDonalds. I was never obese back then. It has little to do with the food and everything to do with the sedentary lifestyles these kids are leading. When I was a kid, I was always playing ball outside, riding my bike, etc. Sure, I played video games too, but I got tons of exercise running around.
