Grandpa McCain got one foot in the grave, do you really want her leading the free world?

Wimp Obama has no backbone you really want Pelosi running the free world? I will play the odds that mccain lives most of his term vs Obama growning a back bone.

Evidence of said missing backbone?

When has he stood up to his party? Obama is a classic puppet he won't take any sort of stand he lets others do that.

Yeah, just ask the liberal Dems and Pelosi what they think about Obama's vote for FISA!!

Oh, wait...

The what now? That didn't make any sense.

His whole shtick is that he tries to combine Obama and Nancy Pelosi in every thread imaginable. Now I imagine you're as confused as I am as to why he thinks the Speaker of the House would suddenly be running the presidency, particularly considering the lack of close ties between the two and their separation in the houses of Congress, but he continues to do it at every opportunity regardless of how many times he's slapped down on it.

I guess he heard it on the radio somewhere and latched on.

Pelosi and Obama are one in the same since he votes party lines 90% of the time. You all want to tie bush to McCain I will tie Pelosi to Obama.

PALIN: Charlie, you're in Alaska. We have that very narrow maritime border between the United States, and the 49th state, Alaska, and Russia. They are our next door neighbors. We need to have a good relationship with them. They're very, very important to us and they are our next door neighbor.

GIBSON: What insight into Russian actions, particularly in the last couple of weeks, does the proximity of the state give you?

PALIN: They're our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska.

GIBSON: What insight does that give you into what they're doing in Georgia?

PALIN: Well, I'm giving you that perspective of how small our world is and how important it is that we work with our allies to keep good relation with all of these countries, especially Russia.
OMG

McCain's campaign is a traveling circus.

Wow he made his anual token vote against his party. Give me a call when he joins the other side to author some bills.

How about you learn how to tie your shoe laces first?

These guys are probably better prepared than Palin is.

Seriously - would you prefer the country face some int'l showdown with some gal from Wasilla, AK, or 4 guys from Flint, MI? 😉

She doesn't seem to realize that diplomacy, despite the bush bluster, has always been the dominant facet of world affairs. Her answers were decidedly undiplomatic.

And profjohn, I decided to make a thread about palin's views on world affairs as opposed to her baseball skills.

No person with even a passing interest in US foreign policy could not know what the Bush Doctrine is. It has been the guiding principle for US foreign policy for almost a decade. Inside the beltway, outside the beltway, as someone else said it has 800,000 hits on google.

There is simply no excuse. She has 'foreign policy experience', she just doesn't happen to know the dominant US doctrine for foreign policy. You can't be serious.

"Sarah Palin" turns up 22,500,000 hits on google.... and she's only been on the national stage for 2 weeks... How is 800,000 hits for something around for years supposed to impress anyone??

By the way, I just searched for "bush doctrine" on google, it says "about 569,000" Not 800,000.

Hell, "anandtech" has about 3,000,000 results!

Don't you people know that everything a politician says is coached? Even your mancrush Obama is coached on what he says...the second he thought on his own he mentioned lipstick on a pig.

Boy, I find this interview just painful to watch. She has been briefed to the gills with a barrel full of Republican-platform buzzwords and phrases, but clearly doesn't know any of the nuance of foreign policy, so she's limited to repeating the same broad strokes over and over. IMO her answer to the God question was pure evasiveness and disingenuousness. I know Republicans will take the view she does well in this interview, but I can't see it at all. She sounds like, well, the mayor of a small town, not the Vice President of the United States. Now I can see why it took her six years and five colleges to get a degree . . .

The VP debates will be interesting. Say what you will about Biden, but he has an enormous amount of experience on the international political stage. It will be pluck and perkiness versus gravitas, and I just can't see her being competitive.

The way she will do ok in the debates is by her being 'prepped to the gills' with things to say.

The question is whether she will be exposed for what she is with questions that make it obvious she can't answer them. Unfortunately, from history, that's unlikely.

Remember, even Bush did the debates.

Did I watch a completely different interview from the OP?

Yes, you watched the interview, and he used the interview to attack with a "HOME RUN" claim before the reasonable opinions got posted. That's what he does, it's propaganda.

That way, instead of the posts saying she was horrible, they're arguing with his statement that he's wrong, which is less harmful.

It's the same way the 'lipstick on a pig' phony issue keeps all the Republican problems from being talked about while the 'that's not what he meant' statements are made.

If Saturday Night Live had written that, people would say it was poorly written by putting her in such a bad light it was not believable.

I don't understand why Republicans consistently set the bar so low for themselves and their candidates. When we elect unqualified people into office, everyone loses. Think about it.
And the Democrats have the least qualified candidate at the top of the ticket in modern history... think about it.

Very qualified. Less experienced than others. His qualifications at having the right positions were demonstrated as he won the primaries and debates.

Obama has pretty good backbone, not perfect. McCain doesn't, when it comes to standing for right on issue after issue where he caves to political pressure over and over.

There was NOTHING WRONG with his comment about tlipstick on a pig - nothing.

Do you hear the word, nothing?

It wasn't 75% wrong, or 10% wrong, or 1% wrong. It was 0% wrong.

The fact that the Republican can make up lies and that 'the big lie' technique works to fool people has nothing to do with Obama.

And as far as coaching, there's a differnece between normal coaching and overwhelming.

Well she only got a passport last year or something; has never left the country except on a single thing or two, she would be completely shellshock as president. As her interviewer said, doesn't it take a little hubris to think otherwise? I do believe so. She clearly doesn't appreciate or admit her limits and that is a little terrifying.
She doesn't seem to realize that diplomacy, despite the bush bluster, has always been the dominant facet of world affairs. Her answers were decidedly undiplomatic.
She is a modern day republican, this is par for the course. Stick first, talk later.

She gives me FEAR!!!! evangelist fanatic, and she still believes that females are the Adam's rib... Darwin is a liar? Wow

Heh, well, why do you think they all need guns? If there is not a terrorist there is a burglar with an illegal gun or an illegal that is taking their job(s) or a bunny with really big teeth. 😉

She scares the shit out of me too with her evangelistic absolutes, she seems fatalistic to me.

man before even though i supported bho, i thought it wouldnt of been that bad if mccain won, but this woman is fucking scary. i dont know what you watched but she came off to me as a dumb fundie bitch. you people are nuts to be voting for mccain now and ard are fucking blind if you cant admit this was a horrible interview for her

Hell, "anandtech" has about 3,000,000 results!

and "bicameralism" turns up 60,500 - I'd hope an elected official in any branch of government, not to mention the second highest in the executive, would be able to define that term, it's unpopularity on google notwithstanding.

Point being someone running for government should be able to define a term directly relating to the responsibilities of the post and for the Republican Vice-Presidential nominee to not have that ability is detrimental to the perception of her foreign policy credentials.

Yes yes yes... The more she talks, the more the newness and bliss will wear off and people will realize she is not all that... she got the reps all riled up because they had absolutely zero to be excited about. Their candidate is not thiers (dont forget, most republicans HATE McCain for not towing the line over the years and being too liberal for them) and there is no excitement at all from thier side... Suddenly a new young face comes out saying all the right things and they go nuts. by the time the debates are over this will fade fast. Biden will make Palin look like a rookie that isnt ready for prime time - something that even most republican foreign policy experts are already aware of.

This is the same thing that happened to BHO.

btw I dont think biden is terribly smart, honestly. I dont think he is capable of wiping many people in a debate.
