I've been doing situps, crunches, and curls with dumbbells before and after running each night (one to two miles for now). I'm hoping to increase stamina and maybe tone my muscles a bit so I don't look so skinny (pic). I'm wondering what else I should be doing .. preferably things that don't require going to a gym. Thanks.

the best excercises withouth equipment for getting bigger are push-ups and pull-ups. Doing a lot of both will definately give you a bigger upper body.

yeah man, all you need is a bar hanging in the air... head to the jungle gym if you want. there's a crap load of different back excercies to do on a pullup bar, but they are generally the best ones to do, even better than actually weight-use.

is there a reason for not wanting to go to a gym?

in general, to gain mass you need to do more weightlifting, eating, and sleeping.
"toning" won't make you look less skinny.

For upper back training, the pullup is a great excersise, no doubt about that, but what about lower back, chest, shoulders and legs?

If you're serious about training you need a gym membership...

If you're serious about training you need a gym membership...

lower back = bent forwar rows, upper extensions, squats or dead lifts will work also,
chest = bench press with varying inclines, dips with weights but bench with varying inclines works everything more or less,
shoulders = military press, behind head press,
legs = squats, cleans, deadlifts,

If you want to get bigger you need to work heavy weights. The body weight excerises are GREAT but you won't get *much* bigger though. If you do though it will take a long time but more often then not you will more likely tone then get bigger by much. Hit the gym and do squats, bench press and deadlifts. 3x a week and in 6 months you will be lifting shedloads and will be much bigger.

Eat properly and sleep properly. Drink plenty of water.

How much do you weigh?

Note: Working your legs and ass the biggest muscles in your body will help to add overal size faster then working your arms as your arms are small compared to your legs and ass. Work your legs and ass more = bigger faster.

Thanks for the info, Koing.
How much do you weigh?
140 lbs, 6 ft

I guess I don't care a whole lot about getting bigger. I don't really mind the way I look .. I just want to be in better shape.

Thats cool, people have different aims but theres one thing I've noticed.

Just stick to working out and you will be in great shape.

Drink plenty of water.

Cottage cheese is also great for you. Little fat great proteins. The quality of hte protein in cottage cheese is great. Eat plenty of it!

Look at the picture.

You need to stand up straight, pull your shoulders back and stick out that chest. Get that look of confidence going.

I look strange if I try to force myself to stand up straight .. I'm not sure what it is (pic). How am I supposed to remember to stand up straight anyway?
