I think he realizes that Secret Service protection is little more effective than airport security. It may discourage a lot of those without serious intent, but those that are dedicated can easily bypass it.

For a start, McCain was 894th out of 899 graduates in his class at Annapolis. I deal with much brighter people than McCain, every day, and that's before I get to discussing tech issues with some of the better minds on these forums.

Every time I hear McCain speak, he just confirms that he isn't what I'd consider prime leadership material.

CGS: This isn't a thread about policy matters, its a thread about whether or not one particular decision show McCain is either: (a) headstrong, (b) foolhardy or (c) justifiably stingy with the taxpayers dollars. The policy issues really belong in another thread.

And there is plenty to criticize McCain on policy. For example, a few days agao McCain gave a so-called economic summit speech . After yet again admitting economics is not his strong suit (when the heck is he going to get around to preparing for the job he is running for?), he blamed the subprime mortgage crisis on too MUCH government regulation and called for DECREASED government regulation of Wall Street and investment banking. Even GWB isn't that boneheaded. What the heck is he sniffing?

Richard Nixon was probably one of the worst Presidents in our history until the current Traitor In Chief. Nixon was a bigoted, paranoid speed freak (documented) who illegally voilated the rights of American citizens lied about it to Congress and the American people. He was very bright. Rove is another one who's extremely bright and even more extremely evil, and he was probably behind the "swift boat" style smear campaign against McCain when he was running for President against Bush.
