Webpromo IS working. DOn't forget to clear your cookies. And you get hit with tax if you live in 23 states that they have listed on their website. I am in PA and have to pay tax as well :(

Do these crucial sticks support cas 2? I'm running my memory at cas 2 and it wouldn't be logical to downgrade the speed, since while nice, an upgrade isn't necessary for me. 256 seems to fit me ok, except at certain times when I have dreamweaver, photoshop, winamp, ie, explorer open at the same time.

Wasn't there a quick and dirty way to clear the necessary cookie floating around here sometime back. If someone has it please post it again.

Do these crucial sticks support cas 2?

Sure, if you don't want to take chance with the CAS3 sticks (running at CAS2), just buy the CAS2 sticks :).

Clearing cookies and cache did not work for me the other day. I had to supply an organization name to get the webpromo page to work. I have not been supplying an organization name in the past so it looks like they have updated the webpromo page to require one. So just supply your organization name ;).

For those interested, Ebates DOES work with Crucial's Webpromo. I'm 2 for 2 in my last two orders. What I did is that I went to webpromo page and clicked on it. Then on the SAME page, I typed in ebates.com and went throught their link to Crucial. The price was with 15% off included because of the cookie Crucial sends to your computer. Just checked my Ebates today and I got $2.11 back. Plus I have Paypal debit card with another $.90 back, so the total came to be about $3 less :)

why wont their SODIMMs drop im price:

512MB: $430.94
256MB: $123.24
128MB: $46.74

Anyone know why theres such a huge jump from 128MB to 256MB?

<< what's the performance increase from 256megs to 512 & 768 megs? >>

Unless you are running heavy graphics apps (Photoshop, CAD) with lots of stuff in the buffer or acting as a server I don't think you'll notice it. Just for grins I decided to start a bunch of applications to see when I would start running into trouble on my Win98SE FIC VA503+ with 192 MB of PC 100. I opened Corel Draw, several Office suite apps, several browsers, Outlook Express, Norton Utilities, MS Picture It, Photoshop, Quicken, several other unwieldy programs while paying MP3s with Winamp. I still had 40 MB of free RAM. Now granted, I wasn't actually DOING much with most of these programs, but I wouldn't ever use my computer like that either. I rarely have more a few programs open at once, say my mail client, newsreader, music program or TV card, spreadsheet, word processor, several browser windows, and one or two graphics programs, and of course, numerous background services (firewall, anti-virus, maybe Seti, MSN Messenger, Winkey, etc.), while maybe burning a CD-R or ripping a CD. (Jeez, I guess I am a memory pig!)

But, with memory this cheap its tempting to load up those slots, particularly if you run NT, W2K or Linux. W2K Server is a particular dog. Still, I didn't notice a speed increase on my A7V W2K machine going from 256 to 768. It is back down to 256 again, though it'll probably climb again when I can find 256 sticks of high density for <$30 delivered from reputable vendors.

So I should upgrade from my 16 mb's of RAM? I have 4 slots, but they are all filled. I have 4mb's in each slot.

I personaly think 256mb is plenty FOR NOW unless you are doing alot of Graphics type work
I got 192mb PC100 now
just ordered new mobo/Processor and have a 256DDR stick now.....
192 rarely showed slowdown so 256 should be even better

as you go up the performance increase falls but yes more is faster and will allow you to run more apps at a time!

this is what i noticed with all 9x operating systems including ME

32-do not even attempt way too slow
64-bare minimum and i mean bare!
128-large performance increase
256-still a good amount faster
384-a small amount faster
512-berly sems to be faster unless you run more than 5 major apps at a time

I run 384mb on my celery 600 running Win ME

Also as noted above Win 9x including me will not reconize more than 512
win 2Kpro will do lots more (4gigs)

I hope that helps!
