"Studies indicate that pit bull-type dogs were involved in approximately a third of human DBRF (i.e., dog bite related fatalities) reported during the 12-year period from 1981 through1992, and Rottweilers were responsible for about half of human DBRF reported during the 4 years from 1993 through 1996....[T]he data indicate that Rottweilers and pit bull-type dogs accounted for 67% of human DBRF in the United States between 1997 and 1998. It is extremely unlikely that they accounted for anywhere near 60% of dogs in the United States during that same period and, thus, there appears to be a breed-specific problem with fatalities." (Sacks JJ, Sinclair L, Gilchrist J, Golab GC, Lockwood R. Breeds of dogs involved in fatal human attacks in the United States between 1979 and 1998. JAVMA 2000;217:836-840.)

:hmm: Seems Rottweilers kill more, wonder how many of them were dogs that were trained to attack though.
Saw another stat that pit bulls only make up 4% of bites but 25% of the fatalities. Also that they are likely to attack unprovoked.

Jewish people are bad too, they are predisposed to Judaism which is a serious threat to the Aryan Nazi.

Or is it the Germnas that are bad since they had the Nazis?

Those types of arguments are seriously flawed...you need to look at the individual not the race religion or creed.

RACISM IS BAD.

I am a zoologist by education and active in animal charities.

I do not own a pitbull, yet understand this is not a breed issue.

Fuck there is a dog fighting app out now for the Droid.

The pitbull like the rottie, pincher, and shepherd prior is the bad ass dog to own today.

To the other poster, most do not report small dog bites and like said above almost all dogs 'look pit' when there is a bite.

The jack Russell has been known to bite owners and kill family pets, doesn't mean they are a bad dog either.

Weird to see the conversations here. Those who are promoting the fact that dog breeds are not inherently evil or violent are doing so in a calm manner whereas it seems those people who are condemning Pitts are doing so in such a way that it seems almost violent.
They want to destroy all Pitts and their owners? They want to prevent the breed from existing? Really? Does that mean I can also pass judgement on your children if they turned out less than ideal, ie. beating on people like kids are apt to do?

Oh but wait you say, kids are not dogs, especially Pitts... They are more like children than you know or would ever admit to. Each needs to be raised properly without being abused.

My dog and I were attacked three times once was a pit /rottie mix which hopped over a fence of a convicted felons house and known drug dealer. We got away we scratches.

Then both a whippet and golden retriever bit my dog enough to require about a grand in surgery twice.

He plays with pits and mastiffs almost everyday.

One of the main problems with pitbulls just like handguns is people fear them, figure they will never own one, so they decide to get them banned.

Teenage punks are causing more harm and death lately than any dogs and those same people want to shed a tear and give these hoodlums a second chance...then third...then fourth.

And that is because they worry about their own kid getting caught up and fear is driving them to leave a way out for them.

I don't think the dogs themselves are bad, although they were certainly bred for certain traits that lend a lot of danger should the dog be abused, neglected, or otherwise poorly trained.

I do not believe that they should be banned or whatever, but I firmly believe that just like firearms, ownership should be licensed and the owners should face extraordinary punishment should they fail as owners.
