Another day, another school shooting

I've about had enough of these. It's a pathetic statement about our country when this is now the norm.
To quote John Oliver
"One failed attempt at a shoe bomb and we all take off our shoes at the airport. Thirty-one school shootings since Columbine and no change in our regulation of guns."

Police: Injuries reported in Oregon high school shooting

http://www.cnn.com/2014/06/10/justice/oregon-high-school-shooting/index.html

We need to wake up, realize something needs to be done, and fucking do it.
These gun nutters obsessions need to take a back seat to common sense once and for all
Guns are the Pandora's Box. It has been opened, and no amount of regulation will close it again for many years. With several hundred million guns around the US, a complete ban will likely not make much of a dent in supplies. This is regardless of whether firearms are good for society or not.

The only action that needs to be taken is remove the "gun free zones". They are simply murder friendly zones.

That should create a deterrent for some people, but most of these shooters are going in knowing they won't be coming out, or hoping they won't come out alive. They are suicide runs with maximum carnage being the goal.
If every teacher was armed, I mean every one in the school, and a student pulls out a hand gun in a class room and surprises everyone, they can kill many people still, including the teacher who isn't expecting it.
I am confident that our culture, society, whatever you want to call it, is the main issue here and not the guns. Guns can be an enriching part of a society where citizens have the rights and trust to own and use them responsibly. We have a major people problem, and you know what? I'm starting to think there is just NO solution to this. A point comes when we may have to admit that we're just screwed. If nothing has changed after so many tragedies, then what can realistically be expected to change in the foreseeable future?

Considering he only shot one other student, this can barely even be lumped in with the typical, scary type of school shooting. Just completely pulling a guess out of my ass, I'd imagine that at least dozens of students are individually murdered by other students off of school grounds ever year.

I don't necessarily think its the guns. Why people are wanting to kill numerous strangers needs to be examined in closer detail. Dismissing them as crazies to focus on the guns is extremely easy and gets us no where. A guy doesn't one day wake up looking to murder people. Obviously they have exhausted all forms of help and end up wanting to take out as many as possible before killing themselves. Society has completely failed them at that point. I believe part of it has to do with a less social society and more introverted people.

Sadly, I am thinking this is more and more the case.

I believe this is true, and of course, any shooting will get reported, making it seem like a bigger problem than it is. Its still pretty disgusting though.

I agree. Not all of these shooters are crazy at all. They felt justified in making their choice and nothing caused them to stop before doing it. Wish I had the answers. All I can say is I've seen quite a few very angry young people in my time. I think this entire nation takes on too much stress for one thing. All work and no play, or no work and all stress. Or all work and all stress. I think few people actually feel comfortable, happy and secure. A kid growing up with insecure, fearful and dysfunctional parents can't help them feel they have a lot to live for. Maybe they want to find someone to blame?
EDIT: Also, this might not be an issue if these kids didn't feel they DESERVED a better life, or if they didn't think someone robbed them of a good life. They might feel ripped off or something and they are just pissed off about their whole world. OK done rambling.

From the twitter: "Thank God for the shooting at Reynolds High School in Oregon. We almost reached the point where it wasn't too soon to talk about gun control."

Excellent work, Gun-Brats (TM). Let's never change, because the fear is too great.

Fist gun laws need to be federalized. Its stupid to have a place where I can go across a state line and buy a gun even if I were a felon.

Secondly ban all assault rifles (again idiots)

Back ground checks for all - Even at gun shows. 93 percent of americans are for this, even the NRA was until the black man came.

No more open carry especially in stores or in city limits checks. And no open carry on existing Assault riffles.

Rules on CC. I think most states that have them are probably sufficient.

Offer huge paybacks on gun returns.

I dont care if a couple thousand yahoos get upset, we had rules, we are a civilized nation if you want to go play with your guns go somewhere else, love it or leave it.

Correct, there is no solution to this problem, at least not from a "gun control" perspective. The real issue is society itself, mental health issues, lack of morals, lack of support networks etc etc etc. In other words, a bunch of things that are much tougher to tackle than just saying "gun control! That will fix it!". Sadly, the leftists will undoubtedly bang the drum for more control again, pretending that their idiotic restrictions will fix anything.

lol, most of that has nothing to do with preventing school shootings. How many school shooters do their business by open-carrying "assault rifles"?

Yeah, brilliant, because clearly the use/need for guns in the middle of nowhere Alaska is the same as in the middle of NYC. 🙄 That's just dumb. Standardizing some elements makes sense, but having all gun laws at a federal level does not, that's stupid.

secondly ban all assault rifles (again idiots)

Yeah, because that would solve it! Oh, wait, it wouldn't solve anything, since the vast majority of gun crime doesn't involve assault rifles anyway. They make for a nice emotional target for the dumb/gullible, but logically (using the statistics), they are not even a blip on the radar.

No more open carry especially in stores or in city limits checks.

Again, that solves nothing. The ones open carrying are not the ones committing the crimes. Crime in places where open carry is allowed is not higher (it's actually much lower) than in places where it's not.

And no open carry on existing Assault riffles.

See above. The "assault rifle" boogeyman is just that, an appeal to the emotion of the stupid. It is red herring.

Offer huge paybacks on gun returns.

More stupidity that hasn't been thought through. If you offer a huge buyback price, everyone (legal owners) is just going to keep buying them, then turning them in to make money. Buybacks do nothing, there hasn't been any study showing that gun buybacks have any positive effects -- at all.

I dont care if a couple thousand yahoos get upset, we had rules, we are a civilized nation if you want to go play with your guns go somewhere else, love it or leave it.

Lest you forget, indeed "we had rules" --- it's called the constitution, and it protects people's right to bear arms. You're the one suggesting curtailing rights currently granted to everyone by the constitution. Perrhaps you're the one who should "love it or leave it".

You need to realize you are in the minority on this and will remain so as long as you choose to dictate terms.

There are plenty of countries where you are not allowed to own a gun. We are a free nation if you want to be safe from the ebil guns go somewhere else love it or leave it.

ETA: And again, put a true 100% background check bill on the table and I'll vote for it. I will however continue to work against de facto transfer taxes. Never again.

LOL, Democrats. "Facts have a liberal bias. Until the topic is guns, at which point all logic goes out the window and emotion and stupidity rule the day."

Yes, lets do this. That way I don't have to pay a "violence" tax in Chicago for being a law abiding citizen.

Secondly ban all assault rifles (again idiots)

Why? The price is already prohibitively high and they've been used in an inconsequential number of murders. Unless you want to apply this to law enforcement where killing innocent people with automatic weapons is becoming the norm.

Back ground checks for all - Even at gun shows. 93 percent of americans are for this, even the NRA was until the black man came.

How do you think this is different from now?

No more open carry especially in stores or in city limits checks. And no open carry on existing Assault riffles.

Why? Criminals already carry concealed.

Rules on CC. I think most states that have them are probably sufficient.

Federal shall issue, I'd be totally okay with this. That's the direction it's going anyway.

Offer huge paybacks on gun returns.

Would take years to make any dent.

I dont care if a couple thousand yahoos get upset, we had rules, we are a civilized nation if you want to go play with your guns go somewhere else, love it or leave it.

I'll look forward to you pushing for a con-con to amend the 2nd, what's the worst that could happen?

Because that would have saved this kid.

I know you don't realize it but the logical right wing next step is to allow students to carry.

Hell, why not some states allow buying guns at 16.
