Could be blood poisoning. It produces a red line that travels like that. If it reaches your heart/lungs, you die. No joke.

Literally identical. Going to doctor.

If you die, this should be stickied, to serve as a lesson to those who dick around with medical issues while waiting for ATOT to form a consensus on whether you should go to the doctor.

It won't kill instantaneously or anything, but if it reaches the vital organs you can rapidly go into septic shock, which can very easily lead to death.

He did say the itching was up to his shoulder. So it's getting close to his vital organs.

There is a good possibility that anyone in this position might take a wait and see approach regardless of whether they asked ATOT. In which case, him finding out that it could be worse than he thinks is a lot more beneficial than not asking at all. You can't just assume that without ATOT everybody would call a doctor the second they think they were bitten by something.

I wouldnt call the second I was bitten, but if I saw red trackmarks along my veins, I wouldnt even stick around the house long enough to google it before I'm off to the hospital.

Ummm... if I saw a red line creeping up my arm, with swelling that wouldn't go down and an itchy rash, I'd definately do some serious googling at the minimum, and would've probably been at an Urgent Care facility (one step down from the emergency room) sooner rather than late.

A condition that gets visibly worse over the course of 48 hours typically doesn't get better without treatment of some nature.

Now that I think about it, seeing a red track in my vein probably should have lead to me going strait to the doctor... but for whatever reason I wasn't very worried about it. I Googled TONS over the last 24 hours to find out any information I could related to bug bites, and all sites made it sound like I was only in actual danger if I had a few very specific symptoms.

It turned out that I didn't have a bug bite at all--I had gotten an infection on my hand from working on my car. The red line was indeed blood poisoning, but my body fought it off fairly quickly (it was gone this morning). The doctor said that blood poisoning can be very dangerous if it lingers, but my body seems to be handling it well. He checked for puss in my hand but couldn't find any--so all of these are signs that there isn't any real problem at this point.

I was prescribed some antibiotics, which he said to begin taking if the marks on my arm came back.

Knowing what I know now, I would have definitely gone to the E.R. sooner... I was just having trouble justifying doing that because i was 99% sure I had a spider bite... It honestly had never crossed my mind that something else was causing this.

Anyway, thanks for all your help guys, I do appreciate it!
