Obama's gesture was aimed at the Japanese people, not the Japanese "state". It is a gesture of friendship and amity, not a gesture of submission by a vassal, but a gesture of respect from an ally.

Of course Obama was only demonstrating just how far he has to bend down to be on the same level as the Pres of China. It was quite the demonstration of dominance, but subtle, as only the Chinese would appreciate.

I don't think that Obama bowing or not bowing is matter of concern to anyone. Also, I don't think that this particular action of his will have an impact on any of us, or anyone in the world, therefore I don't think we should be concerned about this.
