Another bow by OBowma

I am all for him being diplomatic and having good relationships with other countries. Just don't do things that others will even get the idea of him being inferior.

Only Right wing fringe lunatics like you and OP will be thinking of such nonsense.

And I agree with Red Dawn, your an absolute moron.

Let's assume for a moment that the presumption of the OP is correct, that Obama's bowing does indeed make the U.S. look inferior. What is the end result of that?

Is Japan going to attack again? Does it make our gigantic military less powerful? Do our nukes stop working? Is Japan going to call in its loans? Are other countries going to be less willing to meet with us or will it be harder for the U.S. to negotiate favorable terms? Are terrorists going to see it as a sign of weakness and launch a wave of attacks?

I want someone to describe to me in a tangible way how this matters in the slightest. Honestly, the only thing I see is that it will piss off some wingnuts, who don't like Obama anyway and wouldn't begin to start liking him if he acted differently in this situation. Seriously, Obama could have shoved a nuclear bomb up the emperor's ass and you guys wouldn't have changed your opinion of him.

This thread is just a joke. I need to stop reading in it. It must be like nicotine, you know it's bad for you, but you just keep coming back.

bah hypricrits.

red is a good example. he has to post a picture of bush holding hands. hell many here bashed Clinton for his near bow.

but obama? hell he does a deep bow and people lick his ass.

personally i don't care what he did. showing respect to someone with more experiance and knowledge is a good thing.

There are reports that the Emperor was a little shocked at the deep bow. But keep on being an apologist...

May Obama was trying to shock him into a heart attack so we can take over.

Ahh yes, there it is again, I thought we had lost all the stupidity from the right, but its back again.

There are reports that the Emperor was a little shocked at the deep bow. But keep on being an apologist...

And keep on being a tool and calling everyone who disagrees an apologist.

We don't apologize for his actions, in fact we don't think an apology is necessary for what essentially is, as usual, a non-issue.

Wrong. I don't believe everyone that disagrees is an apologist - just those trying to dismiss due to who pointed it out and those who are trying to make excuses for it.
If you had actually read the OP you'd see that it has been an issue in the past as many etiquette things have been. In this particular case of Obowma this is now the second time he's done such a thing. You'd think he'd learn...

its not really a non-issue but it should be. Presidents have traditionally not bowed to kings, monarchs etc. they are supposed to be equals and not lower.

Personally i do believe it is a non-issue. i have no trouble with Obama bowing to him. its a sign of respect and showing honor.

i do beleive some are blowing this out of proportion just to slam Obama.

Thank heavens Jimmy Milk-toast Carter isn't president. We wouldn't have any bandwidth left for the other threads.

Stupid issue is Stupid.

When a Guest in someone elses Home, do you expect that Your Rules still apply? When in Your Home, Guests are subject to your Rules. When in someone elses Home, you are subject to the Hosts Rules.

Elementary, hell, everyone in this thread practices these very conventions.

Why because I'm not a hysterical little bitch like you who has to make things up to justify your comments? That's not intelligence boy, that's foolishness.

Yeah, and the middle school insults that make up the majority of your posts, at least those I have the misfortune to read, are truly intelligent. I prefer more constructive things but I guess if insulting strangers on an internet forum is what it takes to make you feel better about yourself...

that's a fair point... when people praise Obama increasing the US's popularity abroad, I point out the lack of any practical benefit. I suppose the reverse should be true as well.

Must be a slow news day for the outrage mongers of the Right and their addiction addled audiences...

Doesn't really matter what Obama does, he'll always be "wrong" from their perspective. It's not really much of a perspective, anyway- mostly a pavlovian response- just say "Libruhl!" and they'll attack...

Yup. The footage of Obama asking for Terriyaki(sp) in a Tokyo McDonalds is bound to occur soon. CondimentGate 2!!!!!

Clinton almost bowing made the NYTimes?

Huh? There's plenty of practical benefit, the other nations willing to work with us in good faith without having to worry about getting bullied like during the Bush Administration.

Your saying there's a lack of any practical benefit to increasing the US's popularity abroad?

Ummm... you ever travel abroad?

Referencing the linked NYT article as a "Tongue Lashing" is more of the usual misrepresentation by CSG. It's nothing of the sort- more of a nod to the natterers. Standard hand-waving and holier than thou snippery by CSG...

In real life, Dana Carvey's Church Lady never knows she's a parody of herself, and neither does the Right, at this point.

Clinton couldn't do anything right, either, iirc...

I could see benefits of a popular president overseas. It may exert pressure on foreign leaders to be more receptive to American demands at negotiations. It might makes it safe for U.S. citizens to travel abroad (less fear of being ostracized). Hell, maybe there are trade benefits, American companies/goods might not be boycotted (either actively or subconsciously).

None of these things are guaranteed by any means, but in the absence of any apparent downside (aside from losing political points with people who won't vote for Obama anyway) I fail to see why it isn't worth trying.
