Gagne was even scarier for about as many years as Beckett's career lasted. Is that guy going to be in the HoF?

I doubt it. Granted, I think closers have a larger hill to climb compared to starters in qualifying for HoF, but "being scary" isn't a qualifying metric...unless your name is Bob Gibson.

ya, but didn't Schilling start a bit later than Maddux? I guess I recall his better years being in the early-mid 'aughts, and it obviously helps to be on better teams--like the bulk of Maddux's career vs the end of Schilling's career...which is pretty much what you are saying.

I do recall Schilling only being a thing once he was with Arizona, even though I knew of him well before that. I just didn't follow the Phillies or baseball all that much in those days.

The only respect I have ever had for this guy is how he handled the social media treating of his daughter Gabby after he proudly announced her acceptance to play softball in college. She was seriously objectified with some really nasty comments. Schilling tracked these ftards down and gave them a good whatfor.

maybe, but I honestly don't give two shits about PEDs in baseball. The fact that Bonds and McGuire and Sosa (especially McGuire--who never used anything illegal during his time) can't get into the Hall is a crime against the sport. Especially when you consider that the bulk of the HoF prior to say 1950 is made up of proud cheaters and mediocre performers that were inducted simply because they played in an early era.

Meh, not here to debate that (I do tend to agree) but I'm not going to compare a guy who gamed the system to someone with no evidence of doing so. They can't be compared directly. Doesn't mean Bonds or Big Mac weren't guys great players (Sosa's numbers were BS though - not a HOFer without enhancement).

He'd be running against someone with a huge approval rating and (more important in my mind) an actually extremely effective senator. I highly doubt the people of MA will trade her in for a numskull who's main function will be to vote lockstep with the rest of the GOP.
