I had read speculation that the HBGary attack was as HBGary intended, basically a honeypot to catch Anonymous, but with all the info that has been released due to the attacks, that couldn't be farther from the truth. What we are seeing is a full-blown backfire, creating more supporters and strengthening both Anonymous and Wikileaks. :)

HBGary Federal (a separate company which HBGary has a 15% stake in) was the company that got reamed. What's more, they didn't post all of HBGary Federal's emails, just all of the emails from the three top guys in that firm.

Parmy Olsen over at Forbes says the group is going to release HBGary email from Greg Hoglund. If that happens, you should look at the entire IRC conversation regarding those emails and the conversation between Anons and HBGary owners.

Also, HBGary was seriously compromised in the attack. Not as bad as Mr. Barr, who I imagine still cannot sit down, but still they were hit hard.

I've never seen such a mess as this one. We haven't seen the end of this. There are many ways it could go.

Without this statement I would have thought that they pulled out to avoid having people laugh in their faces... glad they cleared that up.

It's the perfect excuse; they were thoroughly humiliated so they needed an out to get out of the conference. How do you even give a seminar at a security conference after what happened?

I read this some days ago, it seems BoA intended to go on to the offensive against wikileaks, it also exposes the magnitude of HBGarry's corruption, really interesting read:

After a tip from Crowdleaks.org, The Tech Herald has learned that HBGary Federal, as well as two other data intelligence firms, worked to develop a strategic plan of attack against WikiLeaks. The plan included pressing a journalist in order to disrupt his support of the organization, cyber attacks, disinformation, and other potential proactive tactics.

That CMS issue was kinda silly.
The biggest flaw I see in many companies (not just HB Gary) is their insistence to hire someone to write special software for them when its not always necessary. Hynix and Tektronix both did this with their corporate computers and their machine management systems and it drove me nuts.

I hope everything in the end leads to BoA being absolutely fucked. Ideally they would lose all of their business and go boom, but that's not going to happen, unfortunately.
