Ann Coulter = Inevitably fading from the limelight?

The following is half editorial, half book review for Ms. Coulter's latest, Guilty: Liberal "Victims" and Their Assault on America.

While I think the writer touches on some salient points, I think the real truth to it is simpler: We're all tired of her particular brand of crap. We've heard eight-plus years of it, and it simply doesn't sell anymore. It's not even shocking. It's simply... tiring.

Say goodnight, Ann

Reading Ann Coulter's latest book, Guilty: Liberal Victims and their Assault on America, one almost feels sorry for her. It's painfully clear she has crossed the threshold of her half life. Her mantra that liberals are pitiable, conniving, traitorous losers and that conservatives are valorous, patriotic administrative geniuses plays poorly against the backdrop of the hand-over from George W. Bush to Barack Obama. Imagine penning a panegyric to dirigible travel while crossing the Atlantic on the Hindenburg.

The core of Coulter's thesis is that liberals get what they want by existing in a permanent state of victimhood. This is a rich theory for a woman who lives in that bizarre parallel universe where conservatives are eternally bedeviled and contained by that unholy trinity of the liberal media, academia and judiciary.

It becomes an even more difficult case to argue when you consider how, in its spectacular flame-out over the last year, the American right has suddenly discovered two liberal hobgoblins -- sexism and racism-- to explain away the laughable fizzling of its last two darlings, Sarah Palin and Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal.

Coulter's case for liberal treachery is so weak that to bolster her arguments she is compelled to come to the defence of even more unsavoury characters, including disgraced congressman Tom DeLay, Mark Foley (who sent saucy messages to boy pages) and even the likes of preacher Ted Haggard, who, in spite of having hired a male prostitute, still doesn't believe in the existence of homosexuality.

It's a state of intellectual and moral bankruptcy that even Coulter must find embarrassing. But what choice does she have? She's no longer really part of the big-people debate.

In her mainstream appearances she's just going through the motions, scolding liberal operative Matt Lauer for interrupting her when his lips haven't even moved and being fawned over by the likes of Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity, who also know they're the tyrannosaurs flailing their vestigial limbs in the new age of Obama.

I don't pay much attention to Coulter (couldn't bring myself to read the comments about her book either), but I see her on TV often. And now that the Dems are in power I don't really see her going away anytime soon. She'll have plenty to say, and provocative 'sells' in this country.

She's fading from the limelight because she is getting older and uglier (notice I didn't say less attractive). And Adam's apples are going out of style for women.

#18 on the new york times best seller list.

Yeah, it simply doesn't sell anymore! Considering it's been out for over two months.

The television media thrives on messengers who can present their opinions in a way that rivets viewers to their screens. Coulter is not exceptional in her viewpoint or writing style, but she does get a viewers attention when she speaks on tv. She is oddly handsome in a lesbianish way.

"Raw-raw America fuck yeah" idiocy is long over... it was over a year after Bush's re-election. Coulter milked that cow dry anyway; she may as well get a radio show, because god knows her core audience can't read.

Her MO is to say absurd, ignorant stuff that makes these people go "USA! USA!" It works great when people feel like their nation is under attack, but even that sentiment wears out after 8 years. She's a one trick pony and people have grown bored of the trick.

"#18" doesn't mean much without actual Sales Numbers.

I never understood how Coulter, Limbaugh, Franken, Cramer, Orman and their ilk were ever popular, respected, or listened to in the first place.

If the Taliban ever wanted to hurt a nation, they could just send the likes of her to that nation.

THAT is what hurts a nation, a bunch of ignoramuses listening to someone with an opinion pulled out of their arse. Iran is an excellent example of how this works.

Because there are a lot of people who need to have their opinions spoon-fed to them. Coming up with their own is really, really hard.

I don't see her disappearing anytime soon. Her audience will always have a desire to intellectualize their hatred to some degree so they can introduce themselves as philosophers at dinner parties instead of idiots.

There will always be room for the voice of opposition.

I have a feeling Coulter et al are just getting warmed up. They won't be satisfied until Obama is charged with impeachment. Just like the last Dem President.

GOP politics 101

This machine has lobotomized the Republican Party to the point where a recent convention's star attractions were Joe the Plumber, Rush Limbaugh and a 13-year-old boy who was treated as an oracle because he could recite hard right talking points like the catechism.
lmfao.

Coulter's a shock jock who's schtick is to give the far righters hardons with her vitriol and blonde hair (which is apparently enough to get them past her adam's apple). It was only inevitable that her extremism would wear thin after a while.

Of course. She's got all the freedom she needs to prove exactly how ethically, morally and intellectually bankrupt she is... And she exercises that freedom to the max.
