Angel being cancelled?

Sucks for David Boreanaz, he's definitely been typecast.
To be typecast, don't you need multiple parts where you play a similar character? What other roles has he done where he played a vampire?

I loved the show. It definitely had it's highs and lows over the years and it will suck to see it go. The WB will need another sci-fi show to replace it, especially after the loss of Buffy a few years ago and now Angel.

That sucks, but is not overly unexpected. They seemed to be running a little shy of ideas this season, at least in the episodes that I caught. At least the execs here are decent and are giving the creative team a chance to actually end things, unlike some other series which were just killed outright. (*coughcough*Farscape*coughcough*)

Will certainly miss it, but 5 seasons was a good run for any show. The only question I have now is, is there ANY good sci-fi on TV right now?

He was Angel the vampire in "Buffy", now he's Angel the vampire in "Angel". So he's been a vampire for the better part of a decade, in two very popular series, and nothing else. Sounds type-cast to me.

Good question....what is left?

I still like Stargate-SG1, but even that show seems to be dipping now. What else is there?

good show I thought. was wb's 2nd best seller. no real reason to cancel except that it was also one of the most expensive. hope to see the buffy/angel chronicles spin off just to keep the mythology going.

He was the SAME character. That's not type-casting, that's just being on two shows as the exact same character. Not like they could have made an Angel show and have him suddenly be a midget wrestler.

Least there's going to be a six episode mini-series to wrap the show up, which'll be cool.

Typecasting in most people's minds is being labeled that you can only act/play a certain part. Brosnan as Bond, the old Dean Cain as Superman, etc

because of the expense to produce?

On another WB link:
ANGEL outperformed "The West Wing," "King of Queens" and "Becker" in the time period to rank #3 among persons 12-34 (2.0/5) and men 12-34 (2.1/6). The series defeated both CBS and NBC in women 12-34 (1.9/5) and female teens (1.8/5). ANGEL also posted year-to-year gains in all 12-34 and teen demos as well as among adults 18-34 (up +6%) and men 18-34 (up +27%).

so - what is the story? and will Joss move it to UPN? Maybe NBC is so hurting for next year's thursday lineup, that they could buy it? It would be cheaper than Friends or Frasier...

It doesn't matter. He's been Angel the vampire, and nothing else, since 1997. Everyone identifies him as Angel the vampire to such a degree that I don't think he'd be believable as anything else. It's not like he was just a character in some obscure series, he had a leading role two primtime series for seven years, one of which was his own show.

Do you think Matt Le Blanc could just pick up and be a believable school teacher, or cop, or Romulan, or whatever? I don't, he's Joey from "Friends". I think he could eventually, but it would take a while.

If no one else picks up Angel I hope that Joss can convice someone to make Fray Into a tv series or Movie or something....
For those of you who dont know what Fray is Link , its a comic Written by Joss Whedon that chronicles a future slayer... notice the nicle little axe/stake thing she has on the cover? Looks Familiar huh.... 😀

Nice tie-in with the finale.🙂

so despite being and undead near-invincible vampire, he can survive demons and slayers, but not fearsome WB executives

they should have the last episode have a cameo of sarah michelle gellar where she trips and accidently stakes angel. dust to dust.
