Did they bump the price?
I don't remember how much I paid...
How can you tell when your subscription is going to be up?

I think additional features are due before a rate hike!

I'd like to see a higher PM limit and other perks.

i thought a higher pm limit was one of the perks?

I don't think that $30 a year is too much to ask someone to pay. I am more than willing to do it.

I am a subscriber! :)

Subscribers do have a higher PM limit (1,000) than non-subscribers (100 I think) but I think it should be re-evaluated and raised higher.

Depends on how actively you use these forums. I can see many personal situations where $30/year is simply too much. Why pay $30 to lurk and post twice a week? I went along with the subscription plan for the speed and the fact that my daily post count hovers around 10. Fortunately, the service is still fast even though I'm sure there are many more subscribers now than last November.

Blazing fast for subscribers?

I've been satisfied with the hum drum - but then youz goze and tawkz about Blazing fastness!! :)

So, you Subscribers, just how fast is fast? Is the speed that much more noticeable? Non-subscription does take a while to load sometimes, but I don't know if I need to spend $30.00 to get my opinion posted that much faster.

Yes the speed is noticeable. Especially when there are a lot of people logged in. :)

For those saying "well if you can afford $20 you can afford $30", why not make them $40 a year? $50? You gotta stop somewhere. Those $20's and $30's add up quick, it's not like this is the only place around. IGN, gamespot, etc. are charging and paying a few hundred extra bucks a year on top of ISP fees (yeah I know it's not related, but I'm talking about normal folks who don't understand or care that there is a difference) gets kinda costly.

I'd like to see multi-teir (sp?) subscriptions. $30 gets you everything. Faster access, more PMs, more avatars, custom stuff (just making stuff up). A $20 subscription would get you faster access and custom stuff (seems like the FS/FT folks need more PMs, and since they generate $$$ from the forums, they could pay the extra $10 over the $20 account). A $15 subscription would just be faster access.

That's just made up stuff and no way relfective of what things should cost or include. I'd much rather have a base subscription at 10 sites than a full subscription at 5.

Maybe on the $15 account you could have fast access, but with limited graphics and stuff (to cut down on bandwidth). Or set usage limits (if that's possible) on how much you can view.

I dunno, just a thought.

Of course, I am paying $30 for speed, not info or people. I am lazy.

The 1000 PM limit is cool too.

I remember how fast it use to be before the caps.

I know how dog slow it is now, but it's still fast enough.

I'm not going to pay more than what a magazine subscription costs because my forum use is far too on/off.

Kudos to the subscribers for not being too cheap to subscribe :)

I probably never will until the free access is unbearably slow, in which case I'd probably just find some other forums.

That's a great idea. I'm not sure how much of a head ache it would be for the mods/admin/Anand to maintain a tiered subscription but I'd put my vote in for that.

I would love to get "everything" for $30/yr.

I like that multi tier idea. I am a subscriber now, but I have no use for 1000 PM's. I rarely PM, and rarely get PM'd so the 100 was fine for me. I do, however, enjoy the faster access.

Tiered subscriptions would be good, but I have to say that I'm very happy with the $30 I spent on the subscription.

People will charge what the market will bear. Anand is charging what people are willing to pay.

Bruno, the only problem with your suggestion (not my problem, but probably Anand's problem) is that your suggestion would cut the amount of money they recieve. Imagine how many current subscribers would opt for the $15 plan instead of the $30 because they get the same fast access without the fluff. Right now, Anand is getting a guaranteed $30/year if someone wants faster access.

Overall subscriber numbers would probably not jump high if a teired pricing structure was available.

Forget Tiers, how about completely customizable subscriptions, since we love modular and customizing so much...

perhaps:

$10 fast access
$5 more PMs (people might think it's fast enough and just want more PMs)
$5 custom avatar (the vain or bored might pick this up for the hell of it :p)
$more stuff options priced at $5 or $10

How about that?

edit:

or not... :( money talks in the end I guess. darn.

I love my subcription, but I would like to get a higher PM limit (FS/Trade PM's take up a lot of space!!) and custom avatars would be great.

I don't even remember that I paid $30 till so yahoo comes by and reminds me. Just pay it today and by tomorrow you will have forgot about it. The load time is great and since there is only one person who regularly PMs me the higher limit doesn't mean anything to me. Unless of course some one wants to start PMing me and being my friend.

No one is forcing you to subscribe, I don't subscribe and I am patient enough to wait for the pages to load. No big deal.

If that doesn't work, wait for a AT Subscription deal to appear in the "Hot Deals" forum ;)

lol
but seriously, i wouldn't pay $30 for custom avatars and higher pm limit, but i'd pay $10 for faster access, no problemo. it really might be worth looking into, i'll bet a ton of people would pay that much. the problem is, there are just so many sites out there that are free, $30 a year is a lot to pay for something that doesn't allow porn ;)

i know FW also tends to make money off affiliate sales, as far as i know AT does nothing like that. Another question why am i not allowed to use the F word in here?

just my .02cents

Add 6 more and you have your subscription for the day. ;)

amish

Why am I not surprised to hear this from amish? Perhaps because he is the man who was planning to buy a Parhelia, and is now buying a Radeon 9700? :p

Do you justify those bigger purchases as just $1.09 a day for a year? :)
