...yes I'm complaining about a free service but the other free email providers don't cause this problem.
You know how when there's a link within a Hotmail email you receive... you click on it, it opens it up in a new window. At the top is that frame that says "You're visiting a site outside of Hotmail. Close this window to return to Hotmail" (or something to that effect). Whenever you're on a page like that which requires a login... such as when clicking a link like this from a Hotmail email:
https://secure.buy.com/corp/support/login.asp?what=track
You try to login but it doesn't accept it because the damned top frame prevents it - either not allowing sessions or cookies. This has pissed me off for years and I still can't find someone at Hotmail to bring this up with. (ANYONE HAVE AN ADDRESS?!)
They've improved their spam filtering and soon their storage space... but this is the kind of problem that supercedes all other issues. Countless times we get emails containing links to other sites that require logins... and USUALLY it won't work because of this problem. :| As for why I haven't switched... I have Yahoo and GMail but I can't easily switch off an email address I've had for so long.
It's gotten to the point that whenever I create my own web apps for others, I have to put in a JS header to break the frames:
<SCRIPT>
if (self.location != top.location) {
top.location.href = self.location.href
}
</SCRIPT>
since I'm sending out the URL and recipients may be Hotmail addresses. Those MSN mofos. This would be a viable option if EVERY website out there requiring logins put code like that at the top of their pages. :roll:
Anyone else in the same boat because in the past 6 years, I can't be the only person who's noticed this...
