If your comments are based only on the interview I'd have to say it would be the latter.

If one of my kids had done anything remotely like that I'd be getting psychiatric care til I died. (My wife suggested the very same this a.m. when I dragged in from the track after doing 10 x 800 on 3:15 in Florida's 90% humidity.)

Did you read the article?

The Klebolds said their son was set off by the "toxic culture" of the school, where athletes were worshipped and bullying was tolerated.
so it's like most other schools?

Harris and Klebold weren't bullied, they were just psychos. Well, one of them was, can't remember which, the other one was more of a follower.

It's because the kids are spoiled. Completely and utterly spoiled.

Too many parents these days pander to their kids because they feel guilty about not spending enough time with them. They buy their kids things, don't discipline them, have few or no rules, etc. The kids grow up thinking they can do whatever in the hell they want to do.

Obviously the parents are partly to blame, but I don't think it's fair to let the school and the community off the hook. American highschools have a bizarre quasi-class system that promotes this sort of antipathy between students. Both aspects were factors. And let's not-forget-the-widespread-availability-of-guns factor.

Uh, is this woman confused about issues such as guilt and responsibility or not? On the one hand she is saying she didn't do anything wrong and on the other she is saying "she will never forgive herself" for not seeing how her son "suffered". I'd say she hasn't sorted out much in the intervening years. I'd also say she is being hopelessly defensive, if not disingenuous, about her feelings.

Do you suppose the parents of the dead children have a right to expect something resembling an apology for her role? Or, do you youngsters think the parents have so little influence over their children that it's unreasonable to expect a modicum amount of involvement by the parents so they have almost no responsibility? :(

I've seen plenty of successful parents, but I've seen few successful kids who weren't raised by parents who were very "hands on".

The Kliebold woman is a disaster.

I am sorry, I meant to write that I thought the same thing when I read the title of the article. But then after reading it I started to wonder what I would think and do if my 16 year old child killed 13 people. I obviously would not have raised my child to kill people. How responsible would feel I should be for what my child did?

We have a sick culture. The symptoms manifest in a spectrum from conformity to open psychopathology. Everybody, however, is insane and especially so since we don't know it or want to.

You're right. I say we charge her with murder and seek the death penalty. Would that be enough for you?

It's easy to say they should have done this or that to make their children different, but I don't think its fair to blame the parents for their teenage children commiting mass murder. I don't think anyone reasonably expects that of their children. I'm not sure they would have to apoligize to anybody, their loss was no less. I think the school shares responsibility, and I certainly know from personal experience that schools do tolerate bullying and other abuses by the "popular crowd".
