Text

M. O'BRIEN: But conspicuously absent from that short list you just gave us was the military, the Pentagon. This is a type of situation that cries out for the kind of support, the kind of logistics, the kind of coordination the military is ideally suited for. Why weren't more military assets pre-positioned and ready for the possibility here?

BARBOUR: We pre-positioned more than 1,000 National Guard, 175 on the coastal counties, 1,000 more 60 miles inland, so that they wouldn't be swept away in the storm. And as soon as it became clear where the storm was going to hit, even Alabama had sent us National Guard. Pennsylvania has offered us and is sending us 2,500 National Guard.

M. O'BRIEN: But...

BARBOUR: Would I have liked to have had 5,000 National Guard on the ground on Tuesday morning? Yes, that's not -- other states are not going to give up their National Guard until they see what's happening to them. I don't blame them.

Fvcking pos!! Jesus Christ wtf is WRONG with this man?!?!

Nero Fiddles while New Orleans drowns!

Maybe he should have grabbed a bucket, run to New Orleans and started bailing?

I would be more inclined to ask "Jesus Christ wtf is WRONG with this man?!?!" about the OP here. It seems as though sanity is fleeing and reason uncommon in most of your comments lately.

BTW, it's a guitar our president is holding, not a fiddle.

Nah, they want him to go to New Orleans, bringing the usual security entourage, disrupting rescue attempts. Like President Clinton did. Specifically they want to see him bite his lower lip and cry on demand. They seem to like fakery and deception.

As for the national guard, why didnt the local govt call up the units before the storm?
FEMA is controlling the situation I think you need to complain to them first. Second is the obviously inept local govt.

Local government has no authority over the National Guard. The governor is the Commander-in-Chief of the Guard, then it follows a traditional military chain of command. I believe the Guard were called up once the storm hit, though many of their units are presently in Iraq, and the Pentagon has indicated an unwillingness to redeploy them home out of cycle.

Exactly. The Guard WAS put in place before the storm(as noted by BARBOUR). Also note that the Federal gov't opened up all lines of request for aid BEFORE the storm. It is also up to the states to REQUEST the Pentagon activate and send actual active duty military and other resources. The Feds aren't going to send them until asked - it's called the chain of command. Yes, the feds put some resources on Alert and from some reports already had the wheels turning - so they'd be ready when resources were ASKED for by those on the ground.
These people spreading this meme about the Feds not acting quick enough is nothing but shrill partisan BS. Why not try helping for once instead of just whining and gnashing your teeth. You people trying to make this a partisan finger pointing war disgust me.

By local I meant state, not federal. And your notion units in Iraq are the problem is bunk. 3000 out of 11000 Louisiana national guard troops are in Iraq. It isnt a matter of manpower but getting them organized and into position to be effective.

If there are in criticizing that needs to be done it is why wasnt the NG organized on Saturday when they knew the shat was hitting the fan and then sent in immediatly afterward to secure the area? Everybody knows the longer people are stranded the more desperate they become and that means survival of the fittest or in otherwords violence to preserve yourself.

Blather Bond will not respond to that query because he knows that the Democratic administration in Louisana screwed the pooch big time on this one. If he can't reach into his very fertile (and what makes anything fertile?) imagination for a way to blame Bush, he simply isn't interested.

No, actually he doesn't. But he does expect the President of the US (you know, Bush the Bastard) to get off his parties and fiestas and give a crap a crap about the situation in N.O. If he doesn't want to do that and instead play war in Iraq, maybe the fvcker should be canned?

Of course you guys don't think so....you fanboys have your nose so far up his but that you can taste his lunch!

That was Tuesday, before the hurricane hit. The national weather service reported the Cat5 on Sunday. The governor mandated an evac three days before the hurricane hit but, as usual, groups of people refused to comply. What was GWB supposed to do? Stand out at the bay holding his Wooden Water Staff +8 and chanting incantations to control the weather?

No, what's he's asking for is Bush to wave a magic wand to fix things. He's trying to blame things on the Feds or Bush that aren't in their control. The President doesn't control every minute detail - just as Chertoff doesn't control every detail. The people on the ground control the immediate details and they need to be getting water and help to those who need it.

For conjur and others to be playing petty politics just goes to show how low some people will go to express their hate.

And do you call out zendari for ragging on the governors of Mississippi and Louisiana? Of course you don't! Your previous :cookie: was well deserved!

And I'll be perfectly to express my HATE for George W. Bush and the Constitution gives me the full right to say so! Thank you! :)

Exactly. The people trying to play their petty little partisan games are nothing but trolls trying to "get" the other side. It's rather a disgusting display. Human pieces of trash IMO.
