And I thought I spent too much on beer

I really love micro-brews and craft beer. I have a place about a mile away called Bob's Bottleshop which sells a shit-ton of them and every time I go in I try something new. Some of them are great, others are completely terrible. Generally I don't buy the big brands and try to stick with the little brands BUT by doing this, it is a gamble. Here in NC we of course get Olde Hickory beer which is fantastic so we are a bit spoiled. :)

Had a cookout yesterday - someone brought a case of Coors Banquette (aka old school Coors in the yellow can). It was heat index of 101F sitting on my deck with 99% humidity. The Coors did its job - it was ice cold and really "not that bad". I think I had 4 or 5. We all had a good time. I wouldn't have bought this beer on my own, but it certainly wasn't what is depicted of it in online beer reviews. We drank it and liked it - I think that's what matters, no?

I think there is this reputation that all the big beer companies' beers suck and all the small beer companies' beers are fantastic. I think the truth is somewhere in-between. About six months ago I bought a 12 pack of regular old Budweiser beer (from the gas station for $18 bucks OUCH on the way to a get together) and it was positively horrible. We ended up not drinking but a handful of them. Some friends and I then drove to a local grocery store and attempted to replace the Bud with something better, ended up with Fat Tire which is my go to "easily source-able" beer. I've been drinking that for over 10 years, it's really popular now and you can buy it almost anywhere now which is nice.

Would you drink a beer if it had this description?

"A sniff brings a nose full of grassy hops, though the bouquet fades to bubblegum and tropical fruit as the beer warms. Mouthfeel is rich and silky, and wet hay-field aromas linger toward the finish, with a dank resiny underbelly with just a touch of cow-pasture funk."

Sounds like leaves of grass.

I've got a dark lord 2012 barrel aged bourbon and vanilla been. I paid 40 bucks for it in 2012 at DLD. I'm about to sell it for 160 bucks.

Nice. I think I'd rather drink it but I guess you could use that money to buy a lot of other good stuff :)

Good lord, 17.4% on that Callipygian?

Yep. Tweak is 17.81%. Uncle Jacob's Stout is 17.1%. Avery can make some strong stuff :D
