I really love micro-brews and craft beer. I have a place about a mile away called Bob's Bottleshop which sells a shit-ton of them and every time I go in I try something new. Some of them are great, others are completely terrible. Generally I don't buy the big brands and try to stick with the little brands BUT by doing this, it is a gamble. Here in NC we of course get Olde Hickory beer which is fantastic so we are a bit spoiled.
Had a cookout yesterday - someone brought a case of Coors Banquette (aka old school Coors in the yellow can). It was heat index of 101F sitting on my deck with 99% humidity. The Coors did its job - it was ice cold and really "not that bad". I think I had 4 or 5. We all had a good time. I wouldn't have bought this beer on my own, but it certainly wasn't what is depicted of it in online beer reviews. We drank it and liked it - I think that's what matters, no?
I think there is this reputation that all the big beer companies' beers suck and all the small beer companies' beers are fantastic. I think the truth is somewhere in-between. About six months ago I bought a 12 pack of regular old Budweiser beer (from the gas station for $18 bucks OUCH on the way to a get together) and it was positively horrible. We ended up not drinking but a handful of them. Some friends and I then drove to a local grocery store and attempted to replace the Bud with something better, ended up with Fat Tire which is my go to "easily source-able" beer. I've been drinking that for over 10 years, it's really popular now and you can buy it almost anywhere now which is nice.
