Oh no. I saw them twice at my local fair. 2 years apart. They weren't that good. The leader singer told the same mildly funny story both times.

9. Van Halen (the best hair band)

I'll repeat (unless someone can prove me wrong): FM is a british band.

2nd: VH inspired all the 80s hair bands, but they were much more than that.
50/50
Nicks was born in Phoenix, Arizona. IMO She was the band. I mean all that counts in when they sell albums and singles right? Not that early 70's junk w/o her.
Lindsey in Palo Alto, California.

the rhythm section was brits.

50/50 now and even then, the Brit rhythm section are founding members. If you count Christine McVie from the Rumours days, Brits are the majority. I'll ignore your "early 70s junk" comment since I consider Peter Green's FM the best one. :)

I agree with you about the Peter Green version of FM. I also liked them when Bob Walsh was fronting them.

I honestly can not name a single Pearl Jam song.

YOU SUCK

No, he just never got in <Homer voice>CRAP ROCK</Homer voice>
Pearl Jam is crap rock? Well at least we know about your taste in music now

Honestly its pretty refreshing. Its better than yet another cock rock band winning the award. I.E. Van Halen or their ilk.

Woo..
I'm ahead, I'm a man
I'm the first mammal to wear pants, yeah
I'm at peace with my lust
I can kill 'cause in God I trust, yeah
It's evolution, baby

I'm at peace, I?m the man
Buying stocks on the day of the crash
On the loose, I'm a truck
All the rolling hills, I?ll flatten? em out, yeah
It's herd behavior, uh huh
It's evolution, baby

Admire me, admire my home
Admire my song, here's my coat
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
This land is mine, this land is free
I'll do what I want but irresponsibly
It's evolution, baby

I'm a thief, I'm a liar
There's my church, I sing in the choir:
(hallelujah? hallelujah?)

Admire me, admire my home
Admire my song, admire my clothes
'Cause we know, appetite for a nightly feast
Those ignorant Indians got nothin' on me
Nothin', why?
Because, it's evolution, baby!

I am ahead, I am advanced
I am the first mammal to make plans, yeah
I crawled the earth, but now I'm higher
Twenty-ten, watch it go to fire
It's evolution, baby
Do the evolution
Come on, come on, come on

Everyone go download the Do the Evolution video its done by the guy that did Spawn I believe.

I would've liked to have seen Alice in Chains on the list.....definitely a power hitter of the 90's.

Honorable mentions:
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers (music legend)
Soundgarden (power hitters of the 90's)
Live (just plain rock.....at least they used to)
Supertramp (not sure if they're American)
Tool (have had a huge following since their first album)
Nine Inch Nails (Trent's a genious, but I guess technically, they're considered Industrial)

Dude, your CD collection must be a mirror of mine! I'd add Stone Temple Pilots in there, too. Every song/album was awesome and they were unbelievable in concert. Pick up the "Thank You" DVD/CD edition for samples of their concerts if you've never seen them.

I can't believe Kansas never made the list. I guess they are just dust in the wind.

Word, Hankerton has pretty much the same musical tastes as me.

The list is fairly accurate as far as an online poll goes. What would you imagine the average age of the voter was?? I would imagine 18-24. That age group has seen Axel Rose go nuts... and Aerosmith perform with BRITNEY SPEARS at the super bowl. That same generation probably grew up with 90's music. I don't care what you think, Pearl Jam is the 90's. The other bands mentioned... soundgarden, nirvana ect. didn't have the longevity. Now, that being said, Tom Petty not making it is a travesty. Same as the Chili Peppers... but that's how the vote turned out I guess. FMQB is calling BS on the poll and is currently doing a revote... here. stop complaining and go vote. and by the way... props to my pj fans in this thread, they fvcking rock... saw them twice in '03 and once in '04.

Well, at least Creed wasn't on the list.

Dude...you cannot expect every band that has couple of good albums to be on the list like that. Creed was around for what 7 years or more or less..dont remember...but were they as influential as GN'R---> NOOO WAAAY.

Creed is excellent, but definitely not one of those bands which fall into that category.
Hell...Dream Theater is better than Creed.

Anyone comparing Dream Theater to crappy mainstream radio junk should get shot in the nads. Twice...

Some puss journalist who thinks they have a clue about "Rock"

They were reader picks. The journalist's picks were a little better and considered real rock and that music was made before 1985.

What a load of utter crap. This person wouldn't know "rock music" if it sneaked up behind them and delivered an atomic wedgie!

DMB and working class? Who are they kidding? DMB fans are rich kids swiping daddy's credit card everywhere they go.
