Calling out on the PS4? Half of the PS4 was simply above what my PC uses in idle for sure.
Yes, instead of calling out both of them.
They're both abysmal idle power draw, the ps4 just is the greater offender by about 20W.

I started by saying "their ", meaning both consoles. So no, I didnt just call out one of them.
As I see it, this console launch is simply a complete disaster. And I can only wonder if they will walk the same path as the Wii U.
In terms of power consumption, I would guess none of the consoles actually downclocks.
Did you use any of the new consoles?
Which to me means it was a resounding success. As I see it, this console launch is simply a complete disaster.
The PS4 is using blurry fxaa. If that impresses you, then your bar is set pretty low for IQ.
Good Lord, that XB1 shot is horrific for "next gen". D: I've seen PC's with 7790 cards do better than that on modded 2007 era games. Lower quality setting + AA usually looks better than no AA at all on any quality setting. "Jaggies" went out of fashion in the late 90's...The single fact that neither the PS4 or Xbox One can run a growing number of titles in 1080p. Not to mention the medium settings or below mixed with for example 720p. Plus the dynamic downscaling even further when the game gets more demanding. Thats seriously a dissapointment. Specially when both consoles have been announced from both companies to last atleast 10 years.
And to the OP, BF4 runs at medium settings at best on consoles. And lower res.

XBone strikes me as a better living room box than the PS4, which strikes me as more gaming focused (due to specs).
Should be interesting to watch this play out while sitting on my throne on top of PC Master Race Mountain.
Wrong. Xbone is for living room. So many times, back when I had PSX, I had to skip my games, because my parents wanted to watch News or something. To do this I had to puse/save and unplug the console from TV, put "cable" cable back in... way too much hassle.
With Xbox, you don't even need your remote to change from game to TV in seconds.
Well I guess I dont have ADD and have my own living room.. That's all fine and dandy but I game to game, its just personal preference. That is not the mission of the Xbone at all, watch some videos of the Xbox One in action. It does a great job of going between games, TV, encoding/uploading game clips etc. the multitasking is fast and seamless. Very impressive considering the Jaguar cores are supposedly "weak" and the CPU in general is supposed to be "slow".
I get it, apacolypse coming and all that, I'm just saying its the equivalent of an extra halogen lightbulb in the scheme of things.Smoke what? US energy consumption peaked more than 5 years ago. We've gone from a historical rising trend of 1% to a decline. Our energy consumption is now more than 10% below the 50+ year historical trendline that was broken in 2008. There is no energy source rising up to replace what is going away. Natural gas consumption is at 50 year lows. (see Figure 2.2 of The EIA Nove 2013 Short Term Energy Outlook. ) I think we should be very concerned about the idle power of these consoles.

All you'd have to do is spend $125 on a 2GB 7850 and your PC would already be as good if not better. But you're moving to an APU, so obviously your idea of good enough is far below what the typical PC gamer feels is required to say the same.

That is an incredibly biased view to hold. I know you're excited for these consoles, but please don't let that excitement blind you from the fact that these draw far, far too much at idle for the hardware that's in it.There's no way around it: the power usage is up this round because they put pretty powerful stuff compared to yesteryear's consoles. No need for everyone to dance around that.
You can build an 8 core AMD system with a 7850 for about $600, mATX form factor. No OS for that price though, no keyboard or mouse, no wireless either. And of course the form factor is no where near the PS4, it's a relatively clunky box. The processor is faster yes, so there's that.Show me the complete $400 PC, part by part, that matches the PS4 for gaming.

The PS4 is a really elegant piece of hardware, no doubt about it. The Xbone is not bad either, really nice cooling setup on the Xbone.
On the idle power draw, would not be surprised if that was addressed in a future update by Sony/MS.

Meaningless benches, who cares. What matters is how it performs in games and media tasks, and in those these consoles are
It is worst than comparing GPU performance by furmark score. Go back to your cave, troll!Because browser performance isn't important in a media box?

Just to add the PS4 is definitely that much better, as far as visuals are concerned, than the Xbox at this point in time ~

The top one is from PS4 while the one below is Xbox
I'll go ahead and file this under "sperglord crap that has no bearing on my console purchase decision".
I'm sure the 2 cents I save per 3 months on power would be awesome for my wallet! AND GREAT for the environment, though! I think i'll just sperg over 20 vs 10 watts on the PS4 because that cost me another cent that I could have saved. *COUGH* Nobody cares about this crap. This garbage. The PS4 had the best launch sales of any console in history, 1 million in 24 hours while the prior record was the Wii with 600k. I think it's safe to say that nobody gives a flying f...lip.
Now my plasma bigscreen with its 2500W power consumption. It's an environmentalist's dream. It'll chug power and i'll happily pay the power bill. And of course I'll happily game on it from the couch!
