I just finished reading the mid-range buyers guide at Anandtech and I am shocked that they continue to recommend the Nutech DDW-082 burner. Thier argument is that the burner is cheap, but the far superior NEC ND-2510A is only 6 bucks more! Plus, the NEC drive supports Dual Layer burns, whereas the Nutech does not. Am I wrong here or did Anandtech completely sell out to Nutech?

I dont think they've sold out. They just might have gotten lucky and got the "golden sample" as someone in here said. I still trust AT reviews much more than other websites reviews.

If Evan Lieb had listened to Kristopher Kubicki, he probably would have gone with the Pioneer drive for this article. I know for a fact that KK thinks the Pioneer drives are the best DVD burners on the market in terms of burn quality.
You guys are too hard on the editors here. They are some of the most knowledgeable and capable hardware reviewers out there. Anand got married recently and has been away AFAIK, so cut these guys some slack. It would be like an engineering office attempting to function properly while the chief engineer was on vacation. It's problematic and it doesn't mean that the staff are a bunch of idiots.

paxnot you might tone it down just a little -- most likely the AT reviewer got one of the few drives that does work as advertised, and made the recommendation on low price plus good performance (for that sample).
It's silly to think NuTech could or would pay a big enough bribe to produce a knowingly tainted recommendation.
Yes, it's frustrating that NuTech probably deceived AT by sending a "golden sample" hand-picked drive. But you could respond with a little more calmness and courtesy instead of yelling "sold out!" in a crowded forum.

Anandtech is a great forum but their reviews pretty much suck.
