So what kind of stuff gets given? Are these gag gifts or real ones? It says a starting point of $20, do many people go over and how much?

Just curious, this seems interesting.

Most people just go with something on the person's "likes" list.
Some put in gag/funny stuff.
Some people go all out and spend way too much.

Its more about fun than what you get.

What rudeguy said. We put the minimum just because many years ago there was an issue where someone only spent like $5-$10 on a gift, which made the recipient feel like they got screwed as they spent a significant amount more. Thus, the minimum was created. A lot of people go well above that amount, but its not required.

Some put forth a lot of thought/effort. It's something that can't be predicted though. Here is the Gift Thread from last year. That should help show you the variety in the gift giving.

Also my first year I did a lot of nice things for my little elf.

Santa fucked me with a shit gift. I swore I wouldnt do it again but Marty agreed to hook me up with a good person the year after that. It worked out well.

i went over. but i do that at christmas so, it's no big deal. but for me, christmas is about giving. my personal goal is to send a few things i think the person would actually want/use, and a few things that are funny, or goofy.

and, i got super cool gifts. my aperture labs lemon grenade mug is the coolest thing and i use it every day.

it works in 3s
