I just wanted to say that Anandtech has the worst search engine ever. Why can't it be just like regular forums out there? Or at least do something about the search engine.

 I think it has a great search feature, personally. You want to see bad, check the WoW forums at worldofwarcraft.com. You couldn't find a previous post you were looking for if you had months to search and there was a million dollar reward. Regardless, if you want to complain about this forum's awesome search feature for some reason, fusetalk.com is the place to do it; it's their software.

Perhaps you're not putting in enough words or phrases to narrow down your search.

The archived threads search is still borked but the rest of it works fine for me.

Agreed. The software for the WoW forums is big POS in general.

Try searching for the word 'motherboard' in current threads and limit your search to messages posted in the last 10 days. You will find nothing.

When searching in a specific forum it does NOT list the threads in the correct date/order!

Say you were looking for a Telephone in the ForSale/Trade forum, you input the word "PHONE" on that page............... The dates are all mixed to the right. I mean you can have a 2 mth old thread at the top when you're looking for the most recent. You have to sift through all the old "CLOSED" threads to find one that's active.

I know it was'nt always like this. Been here over 5 years and it has changed.

The search for "Phone" in the FS/Trade forum produced, in order:

1/31/06 9:39am
1/09/06 11:27pm
1/30/06 10:43pm
1/13/06 9:21am
1/18/06 8:09am
1/31/06 9:54pm
2/06/06 7:28am
2/12/06 11:18pm
2/19/06 3:11pm
3/21/06 7:35pm
1/24/06 4:38pm
2/02/06 9:39am

How does this help the person looking for a PHONE or anything else in a recent thread when all the dates are mixed? It DOES'NT HELP! The "MAIN" search engine is the SAME EXACT way!

I got these results by searching using the word "phone" in the FS forum:

03/29/2006 04:35 AM
03/29/2006 03:00 AM
03/29/2006 12:25 AM
03/28/2006 01:31 PM
03/27/2006 01:22 PM
03/24/2006 02:28 PM
03/22/2006 05:38 AM
03/21/2006 06:04 AM
03/18/2006 03:25 PM
03/16/2006 04:52 PM

Stop using the little dinky blank search bar at the top of the forum. Go to the top of your page and click on the search tab. Click the little box that says "Order by Date"

It would be nice if you could search on the page you're on (in that DINKY blank search bar) and have them come up in order by DATE without having to hit the "SEARCH" button................... It's too false.

I agree, but it's a known issue that Jason is fully aware of. You're not the only one to be frustrated by it. Why it hasn't changed? I don't know, but as if it's really that hard to go hit the search tab.

If you would set the "Order By Date" switch in the search menu then it would carry over to that search bar.

I can tell you that it frequently fails to sort by date even when you are sure to select the box. It also frequently defaults to being unselected. Sometimes you can't find a thread when you search for keywords in the thread title. More than once I've had this happen recently only to find the thread on the first page when I open up a forum. I often get results when searching for keywords have have absolutely no mention in the thread of what I had searched for.

The Search feature is so spotty that I can never trust the results...ever.

I agree it sucks...especially in comparison to how it was a few years back....I like the "dinky" search at the top but as is mentioned it put everything out of order...I didn't know the other search item worked...Why would I?? When you see something that should be so simple to fix messed up like that, I just figured the whole thing was F'd up...

Then I realized since the reviews are going down hill perhaps this just fits better to the overall theme!!! ;):p

Another thing about the search is that it doesn't pull up results based on partial input, unless I'm doing it wrong. For instance, searching for "Tforce" will pull up stuff, but not anything with "Tforce6100" which is AFAIK the "proper" spelling. Hmmm, wonder if searching for "Tforce*" would be any better...

You're so right. Darn it, now I have to say the rest of it DOESN"T work fine for me. :)

It's been at least 2-3 years since it was all good when you were able to search in the Forum you were in and the Dates/Times all came out in the correct order.

It may be longer but but I'd say it's been like this no more than 3 years.

PS: Bring back the subscription service ;) The forum flew then! I'd pay $20.00 a year for that!

I hope AT will able to fix this issue soon. I want to search by user's to see what they have posted or what they have involved in before I make a deal with them.
