Sorry to revive an old thread but I'd like to know if they have any plans to fix this, EVER. I was just now doing some searches and not one single one was working, not even searches for posts I made yesterday.

i don't understand how this can't be resolved either. i've never frequented a board that has such a malfunctioning search engine as this one.

I have to chime in on this too. I agree that the search engine is terrible... But, I am only mentioning it because this thread has been bumped. I hope they fix it.

Actually, believe it or not, google can search anandtech better than AT's own search engine. Try it out... Take some key words and type it in. Mine as well have a google link on this page :p

But, I love these forums and if, for instance, this isn't fixed, I guess I won't lose any sleep over it. It is great enough that this forum is still free and functional (except for the search, sometimes) :D

Ooh... a thread complaining about the search engine. I gotta chime in and agree with most here. I've spent hours trying to find old threads in the archive and nothing shows up. What Ichinisan said about the order date not coming in order even with the option clicked is also true. Most of the time I can find the thread by entering very general words and going through each thread until I finally find the right one. Or, if I'm in the mood to take 5 years off my life, I search by user and go thread by thread. Overall its very frustrating and has been like this for a long time.
I have more luck with the individual search box in each forum though, as long as I remember part of the thread title, I can get it in one try.

Search works poorly for me too. I've already searched for a thread I posted, but I search using a specific keyword which I posted in the thread, yet Search can't find it. I have to manually sift through each post I made to find the one I'm after.

Someone suggested using Google - how often do Google's bots search and index this site though? I doubt it's in anything close to realtime.

Can someone please tell me how to find a listing of posts that I made in September of 2004? All the search function returns is "nothing found!!!1111"

It should work like this:
First, type your username into the "Author" part of the search. Also, select Archived Messages from the drop-down menu.

Then go down to the "Advanced Filtering" and set the calendar date to the first and last day of the month/year that you want to search in.

I accidentally did it for 2005 and it came up with stuff, but nothing in the September 2004 range.

How do I search for threads I've posted myself? I think this should be enabled in either Search or My Forums, but I can't seem to find anything that resembles it.

Refer to post immediately above yours. That gets you all your posts. I don't know any way to just get your own threads.

It's funny, I've never had any complaints really, until I actually tried to use the search for something else than author searches.
Didn't come up with what I expected, so I just picked a random post in OT and searched for it, didn't show.

Sucks indeed.

A quick search in hot deals for "7200.10" brings up nothing, then i go to page two and low and behold 7200.10 :(

I still love these forums. :p

I find that I must comment:

I have never had a problem with the search (that is not to say that there is a problem, it does not work for some people). But, all my posts come ordered by date, I can do username searches, and can even find archived posts no problem. Doesn't matter if I posted in it or not. But, I guess that is do to my photographic memory, so I can always search for another term or phrase I remember that was in the post if one search does not bring it up.

Word search doesnt work for me at all, i cant find any posts if i use word search. Author search does work, but how often do people use those when they're looking for something.
