Nice idea. I'll help where I can. I do a lot of freelance web design/dev and have a very strong general computer knowledge and a lot of knowledge geared toward web based technolgoies and applications.

Also...if you want to try and use it...I have a Pentium Pro Quad-Processor board that I could donate and I have 4 200MHz Pentium Pro processors that I've been dying to use somewhere. The only thing is that each processor needs a VRM and I only have one. And it has a daughter board just for memory. Like 12 banks for SIMMs. And I know I have a crap load of simms laying around.

One thing to note is the Pent. Pros are not sequental. :) Anyway, let me know and I'd be glad to device my time as much as possible. :D

Also...I have some crappy cases, a few nice HSFs, a few DIMMs, a 15" monitor with a blurry screen, CDRom drives, cables/connectors/screws/jumpers/etc, and a Tribes 2 CD with a Linux Server on it. :D If you need anything, and if it's not here, I could probably find it someone in my junk pile as well.

PS: I strongly reconnend the Tribes 2 CD. :)

Great idea, it's hard to find good servers with good people on them. Maybe this will solve my problem :)

I'm willing to donate hardware, I have rooms of it lying around so it's easier to ask me for something rather than ask me what I have.
One thing though I do not live in the states (broadband fixes that for me though) so shipping could be an issue.

This thread should be stickied. I think this is a cool idea. I'm too poor to contribute any parts, but you have my moral support ;)

So you will only be running Linux and thus games like CS (ones with good Linux ports of the server)?

BF1942 has a Linux dedicated server that's out.

It's very possible, I even run a linux realm server myself. But last time I checked it is not legal...........

Yup, from memory they tried to kill off the private realm server thing. They got legal on some sites and forced people to stop distributing the files.

Heh, woot it's gonna be a west coast server (if it's where Narzy is according to his profile) :).

How about we have some sort of email list to email out the private passwords (seems better than just posting it on here), plus it seems easier if we're going to change the passwords even semi-often.

Natural-Selection is great :D

BF1942 is also great, but needs one hell of a server.

great idea. how about letting only Golden members and above get the password. that way trolls wont get in w/cheats + hacks

EDIT: I can donate a celeron 850mhz chip. that would be a good way of getting rid of my dilema :D
