Was complaining about the non-existing/non-working x-threads-per-page and x-posts-per-page in OT because I didn't know this thread exist (I did look here first, but didn't see this sticky, maybe because of the bland color... hmmm?). So anyway, yeah please allow at least 100-threads/posts-per page like before. Thanks.

Oh, and I don't mind the 'like' button much, but if you really think it's such an important 'core' feature of the forum, be consistent and implement a 'dislike' button as well. Well at least in OT. Come on, doo eeettt!!

Edit: testing the edit button. it works now. great, thanks!

I went to post a reply in the off-topic avatar thread I got this message when I tried to post:

Threads/page is a personal setting that you can find here: https://forums.anandtech.com/account/preferences

Posts/page is currently set to 25, but we'll look into expanding this given all the requests for it.

Hm. One of your Forum Directors informed me that there previously was a time limit, set to 2-3 minutes. I'll get to the bottom of this, but for the moment, it'll be set to 5 minutes.

615px × 96px is a little excessive for the forum logo, even on desktop. It's not that large even on the main site.

Nope, it was truly unlimited. You could edit posts years back, even.

For thread titles the editing may have been limited. Even for that I recall being able to double click thread title and editing for a while after posting.

Patience, folks. Getting to the bottom of this post edit time limit thing. I'm waiting for confirmation on this from the moderation team.

For the love of God, don't put any daft time limits on editing. I go back and edit my posts from years ago to help future googlers (and myself) - if the steps to fix a problem have changed, for example.

eg. https://forums.anandtech.com/thread...angs-on-removing-applications-solved.2400405/

Most of the disruptive editing (backpeddling, editing posts while users are responding) is done within 5 minutes anyway, so the time limit is utterly futile and stupid.
and can easily be prevented with a simple QFT.

This is also correct. We're not computers; three digits of likes next to one post means about as much to most readers as does seeing that post quoted one time later in the thread. Likes are a solution looking for a problem.
It did. Now people see it again. People read that post dozens of more times and if more people directly quote it again rather than just hit "like," the more people will see it and read the words again and again.

the value is in the repetition. Likes are just empty digits attached to nothing. Not saying the repetition makes it more "right," it just has an actual effect on the idea if the member that does like it, makes it shown again. A well-supported-comment that appears once in a thread vs the same well-supported comment appearing a handful or dozens of more times. That is a very real and very clear difference.

And I don't think it makes it more messy. It actually allows for a conversational tone--something that social media doesn't really understand.

How can I change the amount of posts in a thread per page? I am only seeing 20. I usually have it between 40 - 100

You can change the number of threads shown per page in the forum listing in your account preferences, but when it comes to posts per page in a thread, this is now a global forum setting. As such, this has been left at 20 until further deliberations are made on the subject.

AnandTech has always given unlimited time to edit a post. Why change the rules that have worked just fine for 17 years?

Edit: looks like this has been cleared up already, thanks!

I'm not picking nits just to be nitpicky, but as one of (at least partial) Greek ancestry, I feel constrained to point out that the plural of "nemesis" (originally a Greek, not Latin, word) is "nemeses", not "nemesi ".😉 (And while I'm at it, I'll also note that the historically-correct plural of "octopus" isn't "octopi", it's "octopodes". (You're welcome!) <g,d&r>

PS to TPTB: Whew! Thank you for bringing back the edit function so quickly!

The site is way better on mobile than before, and I like the little orange buttons on my phone. I don't need them on the desktop version, though, since I have home and end keys.

It would be nice if there was a link back to the sub forum at the bottom of the page, though.

Too lazy to read the whole thread so please forgive me if this has already been raised.

I don't seem to be able to edit various things in my account like avatar and signature since the changeover. Re the avatar, I try and upload a new one and it doesn't upload. Re the sig edit, I make my changes, hit save, the board says saved and no actual changes have been made.

ya, I know I have edited posts days later, when I notice some atrocious spelling....but I honestly don't mind a reasonable time limit on the option. Keeps people honest, but that doesn't really matter in the end.

Edit now working--score. Now onto posts per page, theme/contrast, and that obnoxious bar on the right side. 😛
