AnandTech Forums - XenForo Feedback

Titillating

Assistant Community Manager
Greetings AnandTech!

With the launch of the new XenForo forum (which goes live this Saturday!), we’ve endeavored to keep it as vanilla as possible in order to ensure a smooth transition. As with any new product launch though, there are bound to be small issues that only emerge when we have thousands of eyes peeping around at every corner of forum.

To that end, we’ve set up this thread to aggregate all your feedback and bug reports. Please let us know what you think of the new AnandTech Forums and, more importantly, if you spot anything out of place.

Regarding the theming of the forum, because we know that’s of great interest to many of you, we are launching with the single default theme that all users will see. We’ve done this for the sake of simplicity and a speedy launch, but new themes will be added in the future, based on both old and new feedback.

For the purposes of bug reports, whether they are functionality issues, design errors, or anything else that might impede your usage of the forums, please be sure to include some pertinent details such as:

  • Your OS and browser version, as well as any add-ons or plugins you are running that might cause problems (adblockers, NoScript, Ghostery, etc)
  • The page URL where the issue was encountered
  • An image of the problem, if applicable
  • Any additional details you can provide that may help us replicate the problem

We are expecting this transition to be fairly smooth with minimal problems, but if any should pop up, we are on hand to respond to and address all of them.

We’re looking forward to hearing what you think!

What's with the "Comment is awaiting moderation before normal visitors can view it"? Does that mean people who aren't logged in as a member, or all viewers of the forum? That seems pointless, an annoying delay for posters and a headache for moderators if they have to approve every post...

RIP FuseTalk, I'll miss you. I also can't seem to find a setting to change the # of posts per page which is frustrating.

Yep. I've informed the admins. I also just approved your posts, which is something I shouldn't be able to do, but reigning in the moderators is probably work for another day.

Thanks. The "edit post" button seems to be missing as well...

Other problems: I keep getting a 403 Forbidden pop-up from Nginx. I also can't find a place to edit my profile, like my sig and such.

The change from FuseTalk was a good thing. So, by the law of averages, this change is going to be an unmitigated disaster. Avert your eyes.

So like windows 8 over 7? 😛

But seriously so far the biggest things I want is a darker theme and maybe a way to enable the showing of how many pages a thread is without having to hover over them.

And we're up!

Welcome all, to the new forum platform.

A few minor hiccups so far during the transition that we're aware of. The Current Visitors feature is offline for a bit after generating a small error, but we're looking into having that restored.

Search may be a tad slow on the upchuck while things index out.

Xenforo? So bandwaggoning again I take it?
I think you are partially right. It is the cool thing.

Besides the responsive default theme (there are many responsive themes for vBulletin), I just can't believe that vBulletin is much inferior to XenForo.

I'll take a few days to get acclimated before I pass final judgement. I do think the theme is trying a bit too hard to be "pleasing" and modern darken the text and the borders. I don't want the info panels on the right they just waste space.

Other problems: I keep getting a 403 Forbidden pop-up from Nginx. I also can't find a place to edit my profile, like my sig and such.
I'm getting that too. I think it has to do with how Xenforo automatically saves a draft of your posts as you're typing, just a guess though. I also get that 403 Forbidden pop-up when I try posting a message in another thread, it's keeping me from posting the message.

We went with a straight vanilla theme just for the launch. Once we hammer out those pesky bugs we'll be able to implement additional themes. I know a dark theme is on the top of my wishlist. The great thing about XenForo is how easy it is to add features and themes. Hang tight while we take care of the launch! Themes will come shortly thereafter.

Another vote for a dark(er) theme. Not able to get the settings for number of threads per page to work either(also wanted 200 instead of 25).
