After the band Death, of course 😛
But seriously, the first album that one could call death metal was in 1987, by Death, and called Scream Bloody Gore. Simplistic and primitive by todays standards, but it was a pretty good start for back then. A definite precursor to it was the aforementioned Reign in Blood, from 1986, but whether or not RIB is true death metal is open to debate. How's THAT for metal history, you Metallic-ass?

Incidentally, Chuck Schuldiner, the founding member of Death, is still putting out music today. Unfortunately he has been stricken with a brain tumor, and it has been touch-and-go for the past few years. But I hear his treatment has been fairly effective recently and he is doing OK.

all right, donkey balls, I see that you're interested in disjunct harmony, if there is such a thing instead of conjunt. Disonance doesn't work, and crap bands like the ones you're defending can't make it sound good enough to be worth my time, let alone good enough for the world to be interested in.

Have you heard Slayer? Have you heard Deicide? Have you heard Opeth? Have you heard Meshuggah? Have you heard the Dilinger Escape Plan? Have you heard Slipknot? No, no, no, no, no, and......no. They are not dissonant, they have complex instrumental parts that far exceed anything Metallica has written. You claim that they are not good enough for the world to be interested in...yet Slayer has been putting out Albums for as long as Metallica has (and doesn't take 5 years between albums, I might add). Slipknot's debut CD has sold over a million copies. It's obvious that more than a few people are interested in it.

I am informed about the music. You are not. You are uninformed and ignorant. Your points are invalid and without merit, as you have never listened to the bands mentioned above. You have shown no sort of reference to prove your point. I have. Until you have heard the music, STFU.

I have my own opinion, and that's all that counts to me. Not your opinion. I've heard slipshlt, and don't like them.

I've heard some pretty crappy metal, and Metallica is what I like. DefLepyrd. Pantera. Megadeath. Bite me.

Actually Red, The Dilinger Escape Plan does incorporate some aspects of jazz into their music. In general, while the music is obviously considerably different than jazz fusion (which, incidentally, I would MUCH rather listen to than new Metallica), it is still extremely technically demanding. Do you play guitar? Listen to Deicide and your jaw will probably drop. Bass? Alex Webster of Cannibal Corpse bitch-slaps everybody else in that area. Drums? Doc from Vader has the fastest hands I have ever heard. Can you pump out 750+ strokes a minute, in time? (Please refrain from any masturbation jokes 😛) Now play that fast with your feet. Gene Hoglan can do it. There's no shortage of talent in the metal area...it's just not a talent that most people are used to.

<< I've heard some pretty crappy metal >>

Def Leppard (sp)?? HAHAHA. Lame, lame, lame. Megadeth? Used to be decent but now they've gone the same route as Metallica, into boring radio music. Suffice to say none of the bands I listed qualify as crappy. I can say that, because I've heard them. You haven't, and you didn't hear me the first time: shut your mouth about music you have never heard.

blah blah blah music you've never heard yadda yadda yadda shut you're hole blah blah yadda yadda

*plugs fingers into his hears, closes his eyes and runs around in circles*

*stops... peeks open one eye... slightly unplugs one ear...*

maybe you didn't understand a small line of mine earlier:

<< They're called real fans >>

The real sellouts are the damn fans who aren't real fans.

FFM, so far you have not given any proof to why you think your bands are so much better. All you have said is "I don't like your music." Well, anybody can say that. Even I don't like most of the music that Napalm listens to. But even I can tell that most of his bands are far superior in technical skills than Metallica or the stuff you listened to, could ever be.

We're going to bed now.
Tomorrow: Seph takes on the Anandtech Forum babes!!! 😛

So I've reduced you to running around in circles with your ears plugged? I WIN.

As for being "real" fans...if a band changes their musical style completely, what are people supposed to do, like the band but hate the music? I was a Metallica fan when their music didn't suck. But to suggest that I should keep on liking them when their music turns into drivel is nonsense.

I'll be waiting for the next person, who will hopefully have some valid arguments, tomorrow morning.

Okay, Top Five Metal Albums of All Time 1970-1990 (in no particular order other than chronologic):

Paranoid - Black Sabbath (1970). The titular song is THE granddaddy of all speed metal/punk IMO.

Overkill - Motorhead (1978). Call it Rock, call it Metal, basically kick-started the New Wave of Heavy Metal.

Blizzard of Oz - Ozzy Osbourne (1980). Randy's first solo in Mr. Crowley is sheer genius.

Ride the Lightning - Metallica (1984). Best album by an undeniably influential band.

Rust in Peace - MegaDeth (1990). Exposed Marty Friedman's awesome talent to the world. His first solo in Lucretia alone is worth buying the CD.

Anybody want to carry on from 1990?

<< Bass? Alex Webster of Cannibal Corpse bitch-slaps everybody else in that area. >>

Pop in Testament, Live at the Fillmore, go to track 8... urotsukidoji 😉 greg christian can tear some shlt up..

ADUL,,,,,

LOL,,,damn,,, i thought he was going off on you 2 . man my jaw hurts from that sucker puch...LOL:frown:

You're telling me Slayer doesn't have any musical talent. Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman put Hetfield and Hammett to SHAME technically. Faster, tighter, more aggressive. Same goes for Dave Lombardo. Reign in Blood is THE definitive thrash metal album, and anyone who knows ANYTHING about REAL metal would put it in the top 5 or so most influential metal albums of all time. Raining Blood is a masterpiece.

What about Suffo?? Pierced from Within Takes Rain in Blood any day on aggression alone! Don't forget our fallen favorites man! I'm a sick metal bastard freak too I agree 100% with you Napalm F#@K METALLICA!

Yes, Napalm and I have heard Cradle of Filth. Have you seen the video for "From Cradle to the Enslave" though? 😉
