"Anand's Material is an Embarrassment to the Hardware Review Community."

His design is a total mess... my eyes don't go to one place when the page loads. It's just disgusting web design. Not the fact that it's plain and not graphic intensive, but the fact that it's a garbled, unorganized mess that you'd have to pay me to sift through.

Bah!

Van is an asshole. He's always been heavily biased and non-objective.

As for Anandtech. Yes, the updates are very infrequent, but the quality of the content is simply unsurpassed.

Van's Hardware, Joe's Garage, Van down the the River Hardware.. who cares,They are a dime a dozen. One good way to get attention is to go after the Big Boys.. make a name for yourself. Any publicity whether good or bad is better than no publicity at all.

Just to clarify, I love this site. I come to Anandtech every day (main page and the forums) and appreciate Anand's work in creating a vibrant and useful community. It's just that the quality and quanity of articles has gone down, that's all. With all the problems in the internet industry lately, it doesn't surprise me. But that doesn't mean I'm not a little disappointed.

dukdukgoos and others.

I'll agree that in the past 6 months - 1 year anand's reviews have become few and far between. After a year or two of not going to THG much, I've begun to go back there more and more.
AT is still #1 in my book, but the days of me seeing 2 or 3 reviews a week have turned into 3 - 5 a month.

I think people have to understand that Anand is going through college as well as reviewing and writing for articles. Yes he has some employees but they are more than likely in the same boat as Anand (going through college). A couple years back when an article was coming out like a guy who had some bad sushi....... he was in highschool trying to get into college (which I find amazing in and of itself, with the sheer volume of work being done for both school & the site). Cut the dude some slack........... this site is his business and it's a good part of his everyday life but he has other things to worry about other than getting loads of articles (which he does already).

Cheers,
Aquaman

blah... screw him... I never heard of him... and now that I have, I won't visit his site.

he's pissed that success hasn't really followed him like it has with Anand.

again... screw him.

I remember him from another little spat he had a while ago with anand. Basically he was aying that he was the only non-biased site around and that anand and THG were both heaviliy biased.

Anyway, I think that anand has stopped pumping out the individual reviews of products since there are just so many HW websites around that the market has become saturated. He is more concerned with the rou ndups and state of the industry type articles which I find refreshing and different. The case in point would be the inside Intel article and a couple of other recent ones.

What Aquaman said.

Anand Lal Shimpi has turned a fledgling personal page on GeoCities.com into one of the world?s most visited and trusted PC hardware sites. Anand started his site in 1997 at just 14 years old and has since been featured in USA Today, CBS? 48 Hours and Fortune. His site?www.anandtech.com ?receives more than 55 million page views and is read by more than 2 million readers per month.

See his pic here.

I don't care much for vans. Well, vans are good at hauling stuff from point A to point B, but they suck at making hardware-sites.

<< I think people have to understand that Anand is going through college as well as reviewing and writing for articles. >>

That's just an excuse. It's not just Anand writing articles and performing tests. He has an entire team.

Besides, I work 40+ hours a week, have a 4.0 in graduate school and still find time for a wife and Diablo.

Someone should start a thread and poll to see how often people come here a day...
Since I don't know how to make polls, it won't be me...

But I agree totally with everyone else in here, I come to this site regularly for what I consider to be excellent advice on the latest hardware advances.

I rely on this site/forum to get me through my work day. I also curse this site/forum for giving me a nasty trading habit. 😉

What the hell does this even mean?

glad your not the only one with a life here😉

starting a business at 14 hmmm must get old at times always trying to be the best especially when you always have those few who are never satisfied with your best!

and there are a lot of websites out there but there are only a few handful i would trust and Anandtech has my vote.

i am married too and as such i know that sometimes we may not see eye to eye but i'd never allow that to become mistrust

van has his opinion and i have mine but it's highly unlikely that we will ever see eye to eye on anything because i depend too much on trust and honesty😀

my .02 worth😉

<< That's what Van Smith of Vanshardware had to say about Anand. Here's his exact quote:

I am deactivating the link to AnandTech because the quality and objectivity of Anand's material has degraded to the point that it is an embarrassment to the hardware review community.

Where does this guy get off spouting all this junk? Van is so hypocritical it makes me sick. I can't believe there was a time I actually took this guy seriously. Even though Van is quite knowledgeable and there is the occasion that his material is grounded in truth, it's fairly obvious to me that he has deep biases of his own.

What are all your thoughts?

*UPDATE*: Apparently quite a few people don't know who Van Smith is (which is actually good), but let me give you the quick synopsis anyway.

Van Smith worked for THG (Toms Hardware Guide, run by Dr. Tom Pabst) back in 1999/2000 but eventually "quit" and decided to join another hardware review web site called Inquest, which he later "quit" due to unspecified circumstances (some believe it to be his false analysis that Pentium 4 clock throttling is "bad", and that it happens all the time. Inqst supposedly booted him cause his testing mythology was found to be inaccurate). Now Van runs his own web site (vanshardware) and is in the middle of working on the "COSBI" project (Comprehensive Open Source Benchmark Initiative). This guy is clearly obsessed with the AMD vs. Intel battle and can be very biased sometimes. However, Van is an intelligent guy, and offers a lot of interesting insights sometimes.

Isn't Van the crybaby with half the audience of Anand and is always throwing a tantrum just to get noticed?

Bring him before ME!! 😀 😀

While the reviews have gotten away from the "unlock your CPU" type stuff, I didn`t know Anand was 14 when he started this. Hats off to him!
The folks in the software forum are great. Have helped me more than once with problems.

The layout of vanshardware is FuX0r3d. He sucks, and he obviously posted trash about Anandtech and Tomsharware to get hits on his site.

<< I emailed him and quoted his Anand comment and asked for an example. >>

I received a response already. His Link.
He said he would post more later, if he had the time.
