some parts are over priced, but i like some of the new tech and integration

(ex. try finding firewire built-in say... 3 years ago, besides sony... hell, you can't get it standard today on a dell or hp)

hate the OS though (and upgradeability), buy a comp. install linux :)

Just another Unix to play with.
I had an iBook, sold it for motorcycle stuff .. gonna buy one again, best piece of hardware I've ever owned.
Yes, I have like 5 or 6 PCs in my house and I run windows on my main desktop.
Variety is the spice of life.

Never mind the price-

It's just too limiting, too proprietary, too few apps and hardware you can play with.

The PC has so many more applications and specific functions that can be accomplished.

That and I don't think they should be charging customers for each version of OSX.

If you like the apps you can run on an Apple and that's ALL you will do, then they are fine.

I don't care for their desktops but love their portables: iBook and PowerBook. Great battery life and excellent design. Ipod is great too.

Nope, I'm always budget conscious and there's no deal with Apples. I also hate being shafted on software availability, I used to have an Amiga so I know what it's like to have all the new software bypass you. Not an experience I ever wish to go through again.

I use both platforms. I'm a graphic designer working with print and postscript... and Macs are definitely the only way to go in my industry. But when I get home from work, I load up that phat-azz custom built gaming rig of mine and blast away some OpFor on America's Army ;)

Both platforms definitely have a purpose, and I love them both. I must admit though... Apple's high prices disappoint me in a big way. And that's the ONLY reason why I wouldn't spend my own hard-earned money on one... I'll just let my company buy it for me instead.

Macs cater completely to a niche market.... but here's the irony... their niche market (the graphics industry) is amongst some of the lowest-earning salaries of any industry in the world. Go figure! The "starving artists" just got more hungry now they they have to buy those expensive friggin' Macs!!!

I own a mac and tried to switch to a pc, so i spent 1110 dollars on one. I thought that I would use it to play games and use it to use all those applications that I thought i wanted to use. A couple months passed and none of that actually happened. I found myself too busy(school, family, friends, etc) to sit down and play games and i didn't really need to run any special apps i found out, because most of the time i could find something on the mac to do it via osx or x11. So my pc sat off for a while, barely getting used. I finally turned it into a tivo like device and it finally gets some use. I could have just bought a tivo w/ lifetime subscription and still saved money. Other than that, i haven't needed windows. I honestly detest windows, everything from the folder structure to the gui.

I agree that owning a mac aint cheep and the hardware isn't always the fastest but generally, i like my mac and mac os x better than any pc with windows. And i really disagree that there is nothing ever that creates interest. I just bought ilife 04, (itunes, iphoto, idvd, imovie, and garageband) for 50 bucks and garageband is amazing. I am actually making music, and its really fun and easy, if anyone wants screenshots let me know, or samples of what i have done in a couple minutes today.

One small point to keep in mind is that Macs have a high resale value to go along with their high initial cost.

True. And I think that's in part due to their longevity... I have an old 150MHz Mac that still runs to this day... it's like 8 years old now and never had a problem!

I like the hardware, and the software....just not the pricetag. I'd snag a new apple if they priced them better. Better yet, if you could build them, I'd go for it. A mixture of 'pc' parts and apple hardware, hell, I wish windows had a PPC port, that'd be nice.

We can build very kick-ass PCs for $800-900, while that price barely covers their lowest of the low-end eMac computer.

Their margins are at LEAST 25% on their computers. PC users are spoiled, for sure. I would be more inclined to add a Mac to my collection if they were price competitive.

kick ass pc? athlon 64's cost atleast 200+ cpu alone. opterons more in the g5 level area cost double or more. no matter how much you pay, your not going to get the smart fan setup of the g5, where the o/s throttles the fans even predicting heavy usage and spinning up fans ahead. 3 separate cooling zones etc.

and how much software piracy goes into actual pc savings one has to wonder.

I love the new G5's, but until they start ramping up in speed they can't really compete with top of the line PC's, except maybe in Photoshop, but even that can be disputed. I would have to say that their laptops rock! I bought a 1.33GHz 17" Powerbook and it is thinner, lighter, and brings more power to the table than anything else I was looking at when I bought it. It has great battery life, and for a student, it's great to have a powerful laptop that is portable enough to carry around, without having to cut a lot of the extras like you have to on Centrino builds sometimes. Ya, it was expensive, but that doesn't mean it was not worth it!

Macs do nothing I am likely to want to do with any computer, that I cant already do at least as well on a cheaper PC. Chances are though, there's more I can do with that PC. Not to say Macs cant do anything better than a cheaper-PC, just nothing I am likely to want to use a computer for.

To be applauded for some funky aesphetics, and erm, probably other stuff though.

cant see myself ever buying one, not unless all good game devs stopped making PC games and made them for Mac instead.

I currently have a TiBook 1GHz (typing on it right now), 867MHz Quicksilver Tower, 533MHz G4 tower running Panther Server and an Athlon 64 3000+ system based off a Shuttle nForce 3 chipset.

I thought upgrading my PC might get me into it, but unfortunately it's just kinda sitting there collecting dust.

I have nothing really against PCs, they're just not for me. Its all a matter of experience. When I got my job, Apple was on the ropes at my company. Previous admins really messed up the systems and the rest of IT didn't have much love for the platform or the hardware. Since I've been there, I've even gotten the hardest cynics to look at the platform again and gain a much bigger appreciation for it. We're even considering a dual 2.0GHz G5 XServe with 3.5TB Fiber connected RAID.

My Apple machines have never failed me in the least and I love the capabilities of the OS. Now with built in support for Active Directory domains and the like, it's even more suitable for the business environment.

I'd strongly consider moving to OS-X if it were ported to PC, but I have no interest in the hardware. Apple is innovative, but so are lots of other things I don't buy.

Reasons I like PCs

- Its much more affordable
- More opitions with the mass amount of PC Parts with lots of manufactures that drive high quality and keep prices down.
-I can play games!
-I can mod my case :)

Basically it was put well many weeks ago....Apple is "computers for dummies"....It is a computer for the simple minded peson who doesnt really want to have to know about the process just that it gets done...While that sounds ideally suited for average joe blow, Apples retarded business sense (why they hold little or no market share) puts it out of reach of the average consumer they should be targeting....

My neighbor down the street does things my more computer savvy wife can't do and yet when you talk to here she doesn't know squat about what she is doing or what happened to get to the finished point....Just a few clicks she says and it is done. Five minutes more talking to her and I am convinced turning on the power is the most complexed thing she understands....

Apple even if priced 1/3 less where it should be to be comparable to my PC and PCs around the industry still wouldn't be worth it cause I like to build it myself...piece by piece...component by component...researching OPTIONS in hardware to find the best at the best price...You see what I just described cannot happen in MAC world....

To sum it all up look at most actors and actresses...they use macs....Need I say more??? If it is good enough for the HOLLYWOOD IDIOTS (Rosie Odonell, Jeff Goldblum, traitors Sean Penn and Susan Sarrandon, etc) I can't imagine I need it!!!
