Mysterious references and listings of 512kb L2 Athlons in notebooks,

Humm, we need to think deep here. I'm thinking we're going to hear from either SonicBlue or Creative Labs; both have been quiet lately.

Hmmm, I think I'm leaning toward the rumors of Barton w/ X86-64 I've been hearing about. Until this week, it sounded like Barton was gonna be scrapped for the value line in favor of the smaller die of the Duron at the low end. Now they want to kill the Duron and make Barton the low end? It only makes sense financially if they are gonna be adding something really really cool to it to make it a more attractive product at the low end. Otherwise, it would make a hell of a lot more sense to just keep making Durons as cheap as possible to increase the margin of their value CPUs. As a value CPU, the peformance isn't usually as important as the price to OEMs, which is where AMD needs to score some wins to keep maintaining market share.

As qouted above

<< Today I'll be hopping on a plane to head off to San Francisco to meet with a company we haven't heard much from in a while >>

I think its going to be a graphics company. Which one, who knows other than, it wont be Nvidia, or ATI.

Who havent we heard from?

3dfx
Creative(well sorta)
Matrox
Trident
VIA/S3/SonicBlue

What other graphic company is there, that still exsists? I would say Rendition but theres even less of a chance of that happening than a new 3dfx emerging.

Thats never stopped people from reforming a company. Its possible, but not likely.

OFFICIAL......CONFIRMED!!

<< In San Fransisco AMD will Announce a new system for counting their net loss. To stay on Tab with Intel's debt, counting money accurately is simply an unfair marketing measure and AMD offers a new system for counting AMD Money lost each quarter using a new Model Numbering System. For example,

a 4 Million dollar loss = Model #1000-
9 million dollar loss= Model #2000-
and 12 Milliion dollar loss= Model#3000-

From HardOCP:

<< After being in San Francisco this week on a 36 hour quick turn around trip, we did find the excursion to be well worth our while. If this company, that we have not heard anything exciting from in a while, can "put their money where their mouth is" there are going to be quite a few folks out there in for a surprise. >>

LOL. Oddly enough that tradition was supposedly started at my highschool!!!!. SRHS. Cali is the place to "toke till ya choke":p:)

After being in San Francisco this week on a 36 hour quick turn around trip, we did find the excursion to be well worth our while. If this company, that we have not heard anything exciting from in a while, can "put their money where their mouth is" there are going to be quite a few folks out there in for a surprise.

Bah, i hate the mystirioso crap. I dont like that "quite a few folks" line, probably wont even be a computer part

It's actually a Ginger personal transport with an AMD processor and a Matrox driven information display.

Here it is... The tangled web of a conspiracy unfolds...

STMicro has teamed together with Royal Philips Electronics N.V. and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd. to make a 0.09um process (before they are dismantled or sold for $15million) with integrated SRAM and DRAM and soon a 0.065um process... thought STMicro was out because of VIA buying them for integrated graphics on their chipsets? Think again! VIA will buy them and use the Kyro 3 R&D along with this new development for research for integration with their upcoming chipsets!! Now we will have powerful integrated 3D graphics on a chipset without the obsurd memory bandwidth being eaten up for the graphics and strangling the CPU from much needed memory access. Best part is that now with the drop in die resistance and heat dissipation needs, it's portable!! That's right its going to be on a laptop paired with the portable version of the Claw Hammer's 64bit CPU from AMD!

Weekend Update:Disclaimer:

In some older news, some European and Taiwanese companies announced a while ago that the 0.09um semiconductor process was now officially created. This comes before one of the three companies is bought out or cut off from funds and dismantled in teh near future. They claimed that this innovation was not progress at all in the computer technology world and scrapped it. In no way is any of the information in this post linked to "anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points and may God have mercy on your soul."

And in other news Anand took a nice vacation out to California because the weather was nicer out there.

I know for a fact that an assload of AMD folks were sent to SF a couple of weeks ago. SO I know that AMD plays into the equation somehow.
Anyway, if the above post is what all the mystery is about... thats interesting.

But we keep coming back to the phrase "a company we haven't heard much from in a while." That certainly doesn't describe AMD.

STMicro... (they're up for grabs) is my real vote (and we ain't heard from them in a while) and VIA or AMD is a part of this... but its all a crazy thought. So I have no idea. But silicon valley is farfetched for all of these companies...

Edited for spelling
