the price tag probably won't be a huge issue... I mean, you can't even *give* 360's away in Japan. they're rotting on the store shelves.

its doing pretty well in korea! the <cough>hack</cough> is helping!!!

I don't get this, how he made an educated guess out of this when everything points to the direction of Nintendo and Microsoft

don't get me wrong, I love all consoles, I bet you I will end up getting PS3 (if its down to like $400) and Wii at launch (already bought a premium xbox 360 for cheap at overstock $312 last month, been snatching up all the nice $20 games now) but I really don't think anyone would predict Sony will still be holding the lead at the end of the next round seeing how hefty the price tag will be at launch.

i am still getting one or two for ebay though :D

did a search on ps3 already. search is busted so please, repost police patrol elsewhere.

you just contradicted yourself. you think the ps3 won't do very with the price tag (not to mention all the other garbage coming out about them) but you want to buy 1 or 2 to sell on ebay? that makes no sense to me

it's probably the most useless statement on statistics.

it was a little amusing the first 500 times i saw it, but come on people. enough is enough.

milking early adopters and uber fans isn't the same as general mass market acceptance

i don't know that xbox 360 has that much of a head start. the PS2 sold 100 million consoles. xbox 360 has sold, what, 5 million? 6? and how many games are really 360 exclusive right now? kameo? pd?

all gamecube owners should rejoice that so many GC games are not reduced to 20 bucks or less. :)

 The reason I dusted off my GameCube months ago was because I was able to buy so many games for it for so cheap. I buy all used games though.

but if a lot of people aren't going to buy it, then there won't be a shortage which means there won't be a need for selling them on ebay for outrageous prices. thats what i'm getting at

After crawling out from under the PS2 rock, I was reading up on the Wii and I must admit that the controller setup is very intriguing. To picture the quarterback passing to an open receiver when I fling that controller forward sounds like a very involved playing experience.

I'll probably end up getting the Wii and later on if Sony starts sucking ass in sales and they decide to drop price to a reasonable amount, I'll consider it.

there will be a shortage because sony can't get enough cell processors and enough blue ray drives and so there will only be 2 million consoles available worldwide through xmas. those will be snatched up. that doesn't mean sony is going to sell another 50 million of the consoles.

dreamcast was the fastest selling console up until ps2, and look how dreamcast went.

but did the dreamcast have the poor hype the ps3 is getting? i'm thinking of all the stuff thats come out lately to turn people off to sony.

a) a shortage does not mean that a system will do well
b) yes i am milking early adopters, those rich trust fund kids who decides to get one when a friend's got it and they have to be "cool" as well
c) xbox360 right now is nowhere near mature or can be considered doing "great", but remember when it came out near christmas the system shortage? the horrors with idiot kids robbing an EB to steal 2 360 consoles? the ebay stories about selling an 360 photo or a plain empty box for 500 bucks? i'm not going as far as those people, but the legitimate way of selling a PS3 for a profit at launch is already a given.

I'm trying to say that if you think the system won't sell well, why would you try to buy some to sell on ebay for $1000 when they can just go to the store and get one for $600? If you think it won't sell well, what makes you think there will be a shortage then? i'm just asking "what if" questions. for all i know, the damn thing might still sell out the 1st day but with all the negative stuff going on with it and sony, why take the chance?

i don't think you understand what i'm saying here

NES
SNES
N64
GameCube
Sega Genesis
Turbografx 16

basically every single nintendo console and then some. would be interesting if they allowed you to play the handheld games on it too.

Perfect Dark Zero, Kameo ($30 but $20 at Circuit City a few weeks back)
Ridge Racer 6 (permanent $20)
Far Cry Instincts PRedator - $30 this week at BestBuy i think
Burnout Revenge, Full auto - dropped to $40 recently

and i believe the EA Sports 06 games will drop to $20 very soon

Do you think I could get another store to Price Match best buy's price for Far Cry? Is it only on the web, or is this an AD?

I don't know if I should get a PS3 myself, I've got the money but still I'm reluctant to spend so much on a console.

Overall, X360 has more games, arguably better games, and a 1 year head start. It's hard to argue that Sony isn't going to suffer this round.

SOME grown ups? You just pulled that out of your ass :p

Edit: Just to clarify, if you enjoy RPGs or the MGS series, purchasing a PS3 is basically a requirement. Most RPG games are aimed at "grown ups."

And yes, suburbian teens can afford $600. They don't have bills. Any money they make is spent on clothes, CDs, and video games :p

I don't think the Wii is actually going to take gamers away from the PS3. I think the Wii is its own entity, most people will purchase it AND one other system. I'm going to purchase the Wii and the PS3. I don't like any of the Xbox 360 exclusives except Dead Rising, but one game is not enough for me to throw money at a system. The PS3 and the Wii have several exclusives, so those are the consoles for me.

Well they have another controller where you dont have to use the hole stick thing...yes i lack vocabulary. But i see your point because i am also a bit skeptical about waving a controller around. It also reminds of all those times i played games with my friends and they moved left and right with the controller as if it made a difference (most noticeable with racing games).

Regardless of which console wins i will purchase a Wii and if it turns out to be crap then oh well i wasted my money big woop.

Where was i going with this...?....(brain fart)

Yeah. I was talking about US market only since the article was about the US market, but I forgot to mention that :x
11 million+ in the US so far for GC.
21 million as of 30th June 2006 worldwide.

There's no reason they can't allow you to use a regular controller OR use the Wii controller. It'll have ports for GameCube controllers, and they've already announced that the new Super Smash Bros will use a GameCube controller.

I think we've pretty much hit the peak for traditional controller design. The Playstation controller hasn't changed much since they introduced the Dual Shock for the PS1 - what does the PS3 add, just the half-assed tilt sensing? Xbox 360's controller is more or less the same as the Xbox's S controller. So there's really no reason for Nintendo to design another traditional controller when they already have a perfectly good one. I think out of controllers for the last 3 systems, the GameCube's barely edges out the Xbox S controller as my favorite. The xbox controller has the best L/R triggers out of the bunch, but I like the button layout on the GameCube - Nintendo recognized that you don't use all buttons equally, so they designed it with that in mind. It's also good for people like me who learn the buttons by feel. Colors, letters, and symbols are useless to me, I go by feel (which is why I love the SNES controller with it's concave X and Y buttons and convex A and B). Playstation's controller... I just don't get it. You use the analog stick the most, so why stick it down low? It belongs where the D-pad is.
