I don't get this, how he made an educated guess out of this when everything points to the direction of Nintendo and Microsoft

don't get me wrong, I love all consoles, I bet you I will end up getting PS3 (if its down to like $400) and Wii at launch (already bought a premium xbox 360 for cheap at overstock $312 last month, been snatching up all the nice $20 games now) but I really don't think anyone would predict Sony will still be holding the lead at the end of the next round seeing how hefty the price tag will be at launch.

i am still getting one or two for ebay though :D

did a search on ps3 already. search is busted so please, repost police patrol elsewhere.

Where does it say he's on Sony's payroll?

There are $20 360 games?

Perfect Dark Zero, Kameo ($30 but $20 at Circuit City a few weeks back)
Ridge Racer 6 (permanent $20)
Far Cry Instincts PRedator - $30 this week at BestBuy i think
Burnout Revenge, Full auto - dropped to $40 recently

and i believe the EA Sports 06 games will drop to $20 very soon

Higher market share than all of your opponents is, I think...

Why? Especially when your opponent in this very crude estimate is probably well within the margin of error of the estimate.

short of turning this into a P&N thread, i think like the presidential election, getting the majority does not make you a winner, buying out people makes you a winner :D

he might as well be.

I was just wondering if you knew something I didn't. ;) I agree with you that the guy has some bias or something... I don't think he's giving the Wii nearly enough credit considering the hit it was at E3 and how Nintendo has been able to get non-gamers into games with the DS (i.e. Nintendogs, Animal Crossing, Brain Age)

exactly, Nintendo is no longer limited to reaching the 18-35 crowd (who grew up playing their games), granted that crowd may be turned off by bad graphics, but im 26, and im really sick of nice visuals when the game suck ass or is repetitive. i bought a DSLite over PSP, and boy am I glad I did it, there are still so many games coming out that I want for the DS, while they are rehashing most of the titles from PS1/PS2 to the PSP.

but like i read in the latest EGM, some guy from Namco said there is one disadvantage to developing games for nintendo is that nintendo is your biggest competitor because of the quality of the games they make. he has a point there.

Meanwhile microsoft is also extending the grip (to a smaller scale) with their XBL arcade games (for example, my gf is hooked on uno, i play SF2:HF even though the control sucks), they have an installed base with a very good infrastructure in XBL. there are only so much nice graphics you can handle before it gets impractical and you long for addictive gameplay again

this is all without considering the PS3 being equal to Wii+360 in price.

Yeah man, for my money you can't beat Advance Wars/Advance Wars Dual Strike. The Fire Emblem series is great too. And they're making a DS version of Panzer General that I want to check out.

I think Xbox 360 has too much of a head start with the amount of games and price. Wii has got them both beaten in price and new cheap initiative games. If all the old NES+64 games going to be downloadable for a good price then Wii will have the largest amount of playable games on launch. This time Sony really screwed up I don?t think PS3 will be ready even at the end of this year.

The PS3 will be a good console, but since PS2's market share is mainly teenagers/kids/SOME grown ups, Sony will lose much of it with the PS3- your average teen can't afford $600, and parents aren't going to spend $600 when they can get an X360 for $400 or a Ninteno Wii for $200-250. I don't know if I should get a PS3 myself, I've got the money but still I'm reluctant to spend so much on a console.

Overall, X360 has more games, arguably better games, and a 1 year head start. It's hard to argue that Sony isn't going to suffer this round.

Well it's an estimate, not a poll... there's no margin of error, it's all conjecture. But if in the end Sony has sold 10% more units than its nearest competitor (which I don't think will happen), then yes I think that would make them the "winner." Although it's not really a contest and there's no set criteria for "winning"... What do you think the criteria should be?

The Gamecube sold 11 million units in under 5 years.
I think the Wii will do better.

all gamecube owners should rejoice that so many GC games are not reduced to 20 bucks or less. :)

i still need a damn component cable for it though... :(

from what i've seen the Wii is the most competitive Console Nintendo has put out in a long long time. i have a hard time seeing how Wii isn't going to cut into PS3 sales.

ya, sony screwed up this time.

I think the console war will be 100% determined by which system produces the best and most "must have" games.

the price tag probably won't be a huge issue... I mean, you can't even *give* 360's away in Japan. they're rotting on the store shelves.

i wont say they're done for, but if the games can't turn out to be looking exactly or better than the trailers they've thrown at us in E3 (MGS4 anyone? FF7 demo? Killzone?) they are going to disappoint a LOT of people and may cut further to hurt themselves as well

its one thing to hype your product, its another story to outright lie and not deliver what you promised. (8 cell processor? 10teraflops or whatever? how many gazillion times more powerful than a P4 3.2ghz??? means nothing if you can't get the games to look like what you showed on video) the only saving grace for them is graphics because the lack of creativity (XBL copycat and Wii-remote) is losing points from gamers as well.
