An update on my collection

So as some of you guys might remember, I had a total loss on my beloved 1900 300ZX Twin Turbo a few weeks ago. I kicked around the idea of buying it back with a salvage title and swapping what amounted to a new front clip on, but this seemed like quite the daunting task and just had too great of a potential for a money-pit/unreliable toy. I was fairly bummed out for a little while and the insurance check came in for the old Z and considering they were asking for nearly a grand to buy it back for parts I basically just sniffled a little and let them tow it off. My Dad however didn't take the fight sitting down and had been scouring autotrader and the like for a nice clean example. So rewind to Friday evening when he surprises me at the front door of my apartment and tells me we've got a roadtrip to take on his birthday (yesterday). So off we go to about an hour north of Ann Arbor to see this nearly perfect 1990 300ZX Twin Turbo that juuuuuust so happened to be the same color inside and out as my old one and had a nearly identical mod list (essentially stage 3+, stock turbos, JWT ecu flash, big injectors (I want to say 720's on this one), stillen exhuast, bilstein springs) but with a very nice looking set of 370Z chrome rims as well. My pops had done all the negotiating beforehand and they settled up for the value of my insurance check (woo, no money out of pocket) for a car with slightly less miles than mine had (108,xxx). He also threw in a big box of parts (a spare wiring harness, a set of purple top 320cc injectors, about 3 new radio masts and motors and an assortment of odds and ends) that was rather nice to have as well. The icing on the cake was that my Dad drove up here (Kent is about a 2~2 and a half hour drive from where my parents live) in my 240 so I could get some pictures of my collection all together (he usually take my 240 back and forth to work so it stays moving and well, he has more fun in it than he does in his CJ). I seriously have the coolest old man on the planet

Better yet, I cooked him 2 pounds of jumbo shrimp to go along with a big juicy steak. We got back to my apartment fairly late (about 10 o'clock) so we stopped at the supermarket right by my place and I just told him whatever he wanted for dinner it was on me and I'd do all the work. He spent his summers growing up down with his grandparents in the outer banks of NC so seafood has a special place in his heart/stomach.

Haha, well my collection is really just the 240SX and the 300ZX, the Legacy GT is just a (really fun) daily driver. I don't really see myself adding anything more unless a really nice deal on a 944 Turbo comes along or something like a Lotus/Caterham 7 that no one in their right mind would be able to say no to.

Well I'll be damned, my apartment is actually in Cuyahoga Falls. I've only lived up around here since January, but I still haven't gotten used to all the old people and how terrible they are on the road. Then again with the way the roads are laid out around here (5 way intersections by malls, multiple roundabouts...ect) I can understand in some small way. But I'm sure you won't have to look too hard to pick me out, I'm pretty sure the West Virginia plates stand out enough.

First thing make sure all the fuel lines are snug including the hard to get one near the front of the plenum.

Looks like it was really well taken care of. Since it was a 1990 did it ever have the head issue looked at?

You hit the nail on the head with the taken care of part. The owner (original!) handed me that blue folder that's sitting on the passenger seat that has every receipt from every little bit of work that was ever done (all at reputable shops as well), even down oil changes. Oh and trust me, with what happened the last time you better believe I checked every fuel line I could get to. In fact, I found one had swollen a touch (on the passenger side plenum near the little breather nipple) when I was looking the car over and I actually make a quick trip to a nearby autozone and replace the whole section. Once I get everything squared away I'll pull it back out of the garage for some pics and videos, hopefully the weather will cooperate as well.

Make sure these two are snug

This next one is the hardest and the one that fails the most for people.

Its the one right at the front near the rail. This is of course with the plenum pulled. I had a phantom fuel smell that took me a month to isolate there.

Getting a screwdriver in there is superhuman without a plenum pull.

Does it still have the early style injectors? If you do dont use ANY fuel system cleaners or injector cleaners since they accelerate their wear.
