Right, becase some random village registers their bills, and has all kinds of dye packs and other nefarious GPS devices to track people who might steal money that fell off the back off a goddamn cop car. Jesus Christ, kid - this ain't the movies.

actually most banks have fake bills w/ dye packs in their vaults, just in case someone tries to rob them. Stick in the fake bills with the real ones, not sure how they go off, but they do.

Dammit, he shoulda taken some of the cash, THEN turned it in kinda thrashed. Just said he turned in all that he found with it implying that someone else got to it before him.

Jazdzewski, 52, an employee of Wausau Supply, was driving out of town for business around 4 a.m. Jan. 28 when he spotted something on the road near the Rothschild Village Hall.

"I knew it was a money bag, and I picked it up. But there was no doubt in my mind that this thing was going back to (the village)," said Jazdzewski, of Kronenwetter.

What was inside the locked bag was more than $850,000 in cash and checks, according to city officials.

A police officer had set the bag on the trunk of a squad car and then was called to an emergency, Jazdzewski said. The bag apparently slid off the back of the car when the officer pulled away.

Rothschild Police Chief Bill Schremp declined to discuss the contents of the bag, which was lost between the Village Hall and River Valley State Bank, but he said he was grateful.

"Someone that found the bag was very honest. We are planning on doing something for him," Schremp said.

Wow.

I wonder what they are planning on doing with the cop that lost the bag though?

They'll probably give him a gift certificate to Subway and a pat on the back

I would be half way to Hati by now 😉

you guys are a bunch of pricks. it makes me sick to read this crap. i hope you all lose something extremely valuable and someone doesnt return it so you can see how it feels. yes, im pulling the holier-than-thou card out here because i would have given it back unspoiled. i just hope some of you are either kidding or you would do the right thing if the situation presented itself, but i wont hold my breath.

He must've called to mind that "Saved By the Bell" episode where they found that shoebox fulla money in the mall and then got chased around by the two shady guys while getting tickets to the U2 concert... ahhh memories...

didnt they end up winning some contest by finding the shoebox? it was the last piece of a scavenger hunt which they werent aware of.

very similar to fresh prince episode when will, carlton, and uncle phil are out camping and get lost and find money in the cave...ended up being a scavenger contest they didnt know about as well.

I thought it was a "candid camera" type show that planted the money. I feel like a failure in life for knowing which episode of saved by the bell you're talking about though.

some people just dont know a gift from god if it came flying down from the sky and bonked them on the noggin!

btw- I would probably have given it back, you know I was raised catholic, the guilt would have been overwhelming!!

its breath, not breathe, and being religious has nothing to do with this. i am christian, but this is about morals that everyone should have, not just christians or (insert religion here).

while i applaud you for saying you would do the right thing, i still give you a  for saying religion is the only reason why.

I just could not imagine living on that knowing the whole time that I didn't earn it, but had to steal it. I hate the free ride mentality these days.

as much as i'd like the money, i would return it back to the owner or whoever that money belongs to. why? because its the right thing to do. i believe in a rare thing called goodwill and its sad that so many people are so hypocritical about it.

Amazing how many people here said "I would take the money." I can't believe this.

No matter how badly I needed cash, it WOULDN'T BE MINE. It'd be stealing.

Are you all saying that the only reason you don't go into stores and take stuff off the shelf and leave with it is that there's security devices on it and you might get caught? Are you all truly saying that you don't believe that stealing is morally wrong? Or that it is, but you don't care if you're not going to get caught?

Nobody's perfect, and I've done a few things in my past that I'm not proud of, so I'm not trying to be high and mighty here. But a lot of people here are just outright saying they don't have a problem with stealing if they don't think they're going to be caught. That's sad. I hope all of you who said you'd keep it don't grumble about politicians in this country, because if it's okay for you, it's okay for them.

EDIT: The guy in the story is a role model, IMO. And, you shouldn't have to be rewarded in order to do the right thing. You should do it knowing that it's the right thing to do.

Well, I mean, YEAH. Like, *duh*.

C'mon, you think we need governments and laws because people are naturally good and kind to their fellow man or something?

Eat or be eaten. It's how the rest of the world operates, if you don't....well, sucks to be you.

See, the funny thing is if I found a bag with this much money in it I'd give it back... partially because of guilt and partially because I don't think any good could come of it... but if I found a $100 bill outside on the ground, I wouldn't hesitate to put it in my wallet and take my friends out for a couple beers later on.

I'm not going to try and be the good guy here, if I'd found that money, I would have taken it.

I'm no asshole, but that's far too tempting. I'm no saint, but I'm no asshole.

 its eat or be eaten if you cant do it for yourself without being in a compromising situation. i dont have your attitude and ive been extremely successful in my life. being honest pays off, but i dont expect many people to believe that because they are either so cynical or spiteful that they cant believe feeling good about helping someone for nothing is a real success of character and your moral stance.
