An Expression of Frustration over the Bulldozer Debacle

If you search my posts you'll note I have long argued that AMD "Osborned" their phenom II, thuban, and bulldozer products by evangelizing that "the future is fusion". It bothered me intrinsically for a long time.

But...obviously there is a difference between providing a simple roadmap versus handing out the full monte.

The 50% more performance with 33% more cores really didn't tell us jack-crap, hence you see the forums filled full of threads and threads debating the nuance of what that statement even meant. It was tantamount to saying "next year there will be new products, and just like every year preceding it, those new products next year will outperform the products we want you to buy this year".

Every industry has this cycle, be it aerospace, auto, or computers. We all expect next year's products to outperform this year's products.

But AMD is quite intent to avoid having a JC tip their hand. Intel, thanks to their monopoly I am convinced, is the only outlier in this trend of hiding your hand that spans many industries.

Apple does this every year, and people buy their products every year. TV manufacturers also do this with newer and better models every year. You know all the features well ahead of release. Its pretty common these days.

Wow, that is pretty sad really. I kind of wish that the early days of computing didn't see so many casualties. It would be nice if there were more players in the game today.

Only if Commodore and the Amiga was around, Apple is boring and hostile to us the PC DIY crowd.

I find it interesting that despite making a reasonably well worded, non-inflammatory post, I am getting a shockingly high amount of criticism and accusations of "not having a life" and "living in my mom's basement".

I apologize for this thread and ask kindly that a moderator shut it down.

Well you're whining about AMD making a sound business decision because you feel like they owe you, who probably doesn't even own any of their stock, something. We're having a laugh at your expense.

I would also point out that the "enthusiast community" is a small minority any way you slice it in terms of sales. I consider myself an enthusiast, and I bought an AMD Phenom II X3 710 chip 2 years ago for my most recent build. Unlocked the 4th core, it's still fine for all my needs (including gaming). I'm currently considering upgrading my graphics card for my birthday. I have no current plans to buy an AMD chip, because I simply don't need a new CPU and probably won't for at least a couple of years.

So 1 chip every 4 years maximum. And even then probably not their most expensive model. Yeah, AMD owes me a lot. 🙄

Too late. You started this, you finish it, not the mods. In truth, your rant did accomplish one thing, i.e., shining some light on how deeply invested some of us can become in what is essentially unimportant. Whether BD comes out this month or next does not affect anything except expectations, which should always be kept to oneself.

An obvious truth, that takes some guts to express around here  It gives Intel a month more to work on the next chip, but that's really AMD's headache and noone elses.

I dont blame the guy for being frustrated. It's like - do you want to sell me a CPU or not?? The people that really WANT to buy AMD are trying pretty hard to hold out hope, and AMD definitely hasnt handled its customers very well. Of course some are going to be frustrated. I myself gave up a while ago but I dont blame someone for wanting to support AMD. They're making it very difficult to do right now.

I would be delighted to hear from you what it was, exactly, that you expected the forum community's response to be when you drafted/created this thread.

so since this thread has turned to shit, i have a fun little question. how awesome would it be to run 4 llano APU's in synch? would it be as amazing as it sounds? i mean, 4 CPU's and 4 GPU's.

Ah, you should be aware that trolling and otherwise intentional thread-derail activities are infraction-worthy/vacation-worthy violations...

If you really are curious to start a discussion on your topic then just make a new thread.

u think you got it bad?

I cant pick blue over green on this public forum without someone yelling foul.

I cant even pick Green over Red on the video card forum without someone shouting foul.

Even if i show all the stuff i have played with and had woes over, and even subjected gillbot to the same woes....

WE CAN NOT EVER EXPRESS OUR COMPLAINTS WITHOUT SOMEONE SAYING FOUL!

haters will be haters....

High-level of what I have primarily used over the last ~20 years (CPU/GPU):

1990's - Intel/STB, Cyrix/Matrox, Intel/3dFX
1999-2004 - AMD/NV
2004-2005 - AMD/AMD
2005-2009 - Intel/NV
2009 - Now - Intel/AMD

I feel that I have followed the better, or at least varied choices along the way (except for missing-out on the 9800pro :'() and I could give a crap what others think. It's hard not to suggest Intel right now for CPUs, outside of very tight budgets. AMD and NV are kind of wash recently, but I give the nod to better power usage (AMD) but I would be plenty happy with either company's top-tier GPUs right now (69xx or GTX580).

Truth be told? I'm not sure. However, I do realize now that the original post came off as way too self-important, so I probably deserve some of the flak.

An honest response, I like that. Fair enough. If you still want the thread closed just post here to confirm or send me a pm and I'll close it.
