I pre-ordered this a long time ago, but a short demo is available.

Supposedly this is a very.. VERY scary game.. 🙂

ugh.. the game is called "The Dark Descent" - no idea why I put Dark Ascent... 🙂

I have very high expectations for this game. Penumbra: Overture got under my skin like nothing else I've ever played. Then they came out with Black Plague, which was downright terrifying. Amnesia should meet or exceed the scariness of both of these games put together.... hopefully.

IGN gave it a 8.5 out of 10, but also said that it was a true horror game as opposed to an action game that tries to scare you (like Dead Space). Sounds fun.

Tried the demo last night. It was very short (d/l was 400M), but the way the player interacts with objects (is that called UI?) is pretty intuitive IMHO. I think I need to turn off some of the effects tho. The 'slow zooming' kinda made me dizzy....lol. I had it cranked up as high as it would go on the resolution (2560 by something something w/8x AA and 8x anistroptic if I remember correctly). Lookin' pretty good tho!

Holy crap that game is creepy.

From what I have read there will be no weapons in the game, which I like a great deal. The reactions of the "character" you play as adds a great deal of atmosphere, your not just playing some mindless zombie by remote control. The interactions with the environment is also refreshing (not having played any of this companies games before) such as manually opening a door. Now manually opening (as in grab and move) a door may sound dull, but when you are opening it a crack to peak through it adds a great deal to the game.

Side note, 20% off sale on steam atm.

I still haven't managed to play through the Penumbra series (been too busy), but I'll definitely be picking this up. First, it's nice to see a true horror game (which are rare), second, it's nice to see innovation in terms of the way the game is played (not a run-and-gun, physically involved with your environment rather than "press E to open door"), and third, I'm happy to support a small developer.

All of these "features" you guys describe are not new, and are present in the older Penumbra games. If you enjoy Amnesia that much, go back and play Penumbra. It is a survival horror/adventure series which, to this day, remains the most terrifying shit-your-pants-scary experience I've ever had. No other game has the ability to get under your skin like this one (and this is from someone who plays Fatal Frame and Silent Hill). Go do it. It's quite a visceral experience.

Dang, and I bought it off the official site for the 10%-off price! Oh well, it's still worth it. And if you did happen to pre-order it from the site, it says they'll give you a Steam activation code so you can still download it through Steam on release day.

OK, the demo was longer than I first thought. Apparently my door opening skills aren't as good as they once were......lol. Definitely picking this one up, and tx for the Penumbra series ref too!

Sweet haven't played any of these games. Just pre-ordered it on Steam cus of the 20% off. IGN said headphones and lights off to play this game and you'll be scared. Haven't been really scared in any game since the original Resident Evil.

its a little too dark and I hate having to hide all the time. I prefer at least a little bit of combat but this game has zero.

I hope I get amnesia soon so I can forget the time I wasted downloading the demo and playing it for all of about 3 minutes before I went to do something more productive, like pick the scabs off my pointy elbows.

Thanks for the heads up on the sale - I'll have to pick this game up. Count me in as one of those guys who played Penumbra in the dark. It really fucked with my head and I had to stop playing all the time to get my nerve back.

Hopefully Amnesia is slightly more polished; that's one area where Penumbra needed help.

Man..the ending the demo is freaking awesome - typical Penumbra style play. Glad I pre-ordered a long time ago. 🙂

You know, you can change the title - just use the Advanced Editor (Go Advanced). If you don't see the option when you Edit your post, go to your UserCP and enable it there (for some stupid reason it's disabled by default).

UserCP > Edit Options > Message Editor Interface > Enhanced Interface
