Just saw a commercial for this.
Looks like it'll be a good show from what i can tell.

Anyone else seen the commercial? Or interested in it?
 
"Hey, boss, I have an idea for a show. What if there's an Amish Mafia? We do a show about it!"
"Brilliant! Make it happen"
later,
"hmmm, I guess there isn't an Amish Mafia."
"Oh well, run with the concept, even if you have to embellish a bit. It's a great idea for a show."


For the life of me, I can't figure out why people are so enamored with all these reality television shows. That goes too for shows like American Idol. Singers with that talent level really are a dime a dozen, unless I live in a weird part of the world were about 1 or 2 out of every 100 people can sing just as well. I just don't get what makes the show so special.

The elders in my community always used to talk about the war between the amish and us mennonites. There were some awesome stories. It is slightly possible that a show named Amish Mafia might refer to some of those fun old war stories which would be interesting. (basically neither amish nor mennonites believe in violence, so there are some amazingly creative ways that they "fight" each other) But I don't expect much from Discovery channel.

P.S. The hats are wrong in that commercial

Near my father's house in NJ, they have a great big "Amish store" with a butcher shop & a shop where you can buy all sorts of Amish made goods. I saw some of the "Amish" working in that store - it took a year to finally convince my father, "Dad, they're not really Amish." Plus, in the store, there were quite a few items that still had those tiny little gold colored 1/2" long stickers that said "made in China."

At least, I've never seen a real Amish person wearing Nike sneakers; ipod half hanging out of their pocket, etc. I *have* on the other hand, seen a bunch of Amish kids sitting in their barn, smoking what I wondered was "did they grow that themselves out here?"

wait srsly you were mennonite? that's awesome!

i live in ohio so there are ton of amish anywhere. people from the east and west coast sometimes ask me if the amish are real 🙄
