Rudy, McCain, and 'He' Who Isn't Running.
Bush only got around 30% in 1999 as well and look at where he is now.

This is such a screwy event that taking anything out of it difficult. The only real winner is the Iowa Republican Party who pockets all the money spent on tickets.

edit>> so obvious

You know, I always used to roll my eyes whenever you Ron Paulonites whined about the media supposedly deliberately blocking him, but I'm starting to see where you're coming from. That's just really bizarre.

Don't fall for that trickery. There is no Ron Paul. He's nothing more than a hallucination induced by mass hysteria. He doesn't even exist.

Canidates pretty much bought all of the votes. This isn't a vote on how the public likes the candidates, it is a measure of how much money the candidates want to spend in Iowa.

So yes, Romney bought most of his votes. Same goes with the other candidates.

Paul didn't even get 11%.

Although, in your fantasy world, I suppose you could hope that all Thompson votes go to Paul, giving him 10.5% out of ten candidates. Even still, Paul is no where close to having enough votes. That is because the votes aren't and won't be so closely split that 11% will win.

I was referring to the fact that romney bought like 75% of the votes but only won by about 30%.

More like disgusting IMHO.

Also, coming to the thread late, am I the only one that saw that dullard's post on the first page about polling numbers was pretty sad? I mean they weren't even about the same things. One was a general, "who do you like" and the other one was, "who did better in the debate."

I believe however that this will be the first major poll where the doubters can no longer deny the size & scope of Ron Pauls support. I am going to go out on a limb here and say that Ron Paul will place at least second in the Ames straw poll.

So i was overoptimistic and wrong. Isn't the first time. If you look at it realistically Romney spent ten times on Ames what Ron Paul did and Romney has been to every county in the state where as this was only Pauls third trip to Iowa ever. Although they weren't campaigning Paul finished ahead of Giuliani and Fred Thompson. That really is a powerful statement. Paul is going on and with half of the candidates dropping out his voice will be heard.

CHEERS RON PAUL SUPPORTERS!!

McCain, Thompson and Giuliani spent $ZERO on the Iowa Straw Poll.

Why is it a suprise that Ron Paul, a candidate that spent money beat them?
What "powerful" statement can one concluded from that?

Because probably every single person at the straw poll already knows who John MCcain is and exactly what he stands for. Come ON! Who in America doesn't know about John MCcain? On the other hand probably less than half of them knew who Ron Paul is.

How many people know who Mike Huckabee is and what he stands for?

From what I read, GWB somewhat got a big boost out of the Iowa straw poll in the election of 11/2000. But as PJ points out, did no win as big a percentage. But, still the Iowa republican party did less well revenue wise because the turn out is far smaller this year than nearly eight years ago.

Leading us all to the conclusion that GASP, the big winner this year in Iowa is global warming. And that Iowa is just too parched to participate.
