As a nation, we're fat... and getting fatter. We're lazy... and getting lazier.

What's it going to take for this to change?

Good question. I am overweight as well, but am starting to get serious about getting the weight off.

I think it is a combination of factors -- obviously, there is a lot of unhealthy food around. But more importantly, I think kids are more sedentary today. When I was a kid in the late 70s and early 80s, I played video games but it wasn't a big part of my day. I'd ride my bike and play outside quite a bit. I can even remember being 12 or 13 and eating a couple of Big Macs for lunch (I was a growing boy!) on occasion and never being overweight.

Parenting. But as the parents get fatter and lazier, they won't expect anything different from their kids. After all, why take your kids to the park to run around around when you yourself cannot do it.

My kids are fit. I hope they can become doctors and make money off all the fatties and their associated health problems.

But really don't blame the kids. Blame the parents who find it easier to buy a buck double at McD or two buy a new video game rather than pay attention to their kids.

i would ask those kids' parents for their papers, if it was in az... that's a crime if i ever saw one...

I eat like a horse when I had my health but my body chewed those calaries up and spit them out . But I still love food its a pleasure for americans. If you get overweight as many do its about self control. But to give up food as a pleasure rather than a need is hard for a nation of so much bounty. Prime rib with lobster with twice backed potatoes . Thats a meal that many many of us eat . Its a little bit of heaven on earth and its something we have complete control over . I should have weighed 300lbs+ for what Iate . I just had luck of a system that used those calories.

LOL @ little michigan man.

Honestly I'll go with the sedentary lifestyle as well. When we were kids we played outside from sun up to sun down.

Yea, but when the parents actually do let the kids out to play, there is some child protection agency coming after them for putting their kids in harms way.

You basically can't leave any kid unsupervised for any amount of time ever anymore, I mean in today's U.S. parents actually do get arrested for these types of situations.

So parents got shit to do of their own, naturally the kids stay indoors close to them.

Government has largely taken away parents abilities to raise their children, then we go blame them for not raising their children. Can't have it both ways.

And let's not forget this image is of a kid in a fat suit.

Is this just a stunt as a part of the new "progressive" anti-McDonald's agenda? They're targeting Ronald McDonald to get rid of him, they're targeting to ban toys in Happy Meals. Now they're putting out images of kids in fat suits?

Am I supposed to be outraged over a staged photo?

That's more like making money off of everyone who pays for Health Insurance, and now with the new Laws... all Tax Payers.

I think all of this obesity, laziness and stupidity is all part of the same phenomenon: a decaying culture and lack of any meaningfulness in people's lives. The real ideology of most Americans is rational hedonism, which has its limits. Even most self-labeling religious people are chasing after the next gadget or attractive mate. I don't know what the solution is. (Maybe a nice plague.) I don't think it's exclusive to America but we are the epicenter.

PS I felt like posting the same picture a while back with a rant but couldn't justify it. 😛 LOL @ idea is in a fat suit. Do you think he has a fat mask too?

Do you have a link to support this? When I googled for fat kid at mcdonalds the only suits I read about were ones where fat people were suing McDonalds for making them fat.

You righties should be thrilled.

It will take care of itself.

They won't make retirement age so Social Security will be solvent again.

It's a win win.

Looking at that pic of the kids I say call out the Ghostbusters. The stay puffed marshmellow man just had babies!

sedentary, and
nobody seems to understand that you can eat as many vegetables as you want. They have literally zero calories. It's all fiber and water. The fiber passes through. So does the water.

Not true. Potato, squash, tomato, carrot, corn, garbanzo beans, sun dried tomato (the worst), and peas are among the high carb veggies.

Interesting point... within this consumer / hedonistic culture we still have people with motivation and "purpose" outside of traditional religious constraints. But you're proposing that because of this rise in hedonism, we have this decaying culture.

Do you really think religion was the answer in years past? On another note, why do we have this consumer culture? Obviously it's because businesses need to sell stuff to survive... which gives the layperson jobs and we end up with this positive feedback loop. But is that sustainable? For another, without the consumer culture, would there be enough work to go around for everyone? Our biggest core needs for life are already covered with minimal labor (food, water etc) thanks to new technologies.
